The Phil Simon Clinic Tanzania Project 03.07.2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Phyllis Hollingsworth, RN. Phyllis had a distinguished career working in the cardiac unit at Huntington Hospital. She also was a great supporter of The Phil Simon Clinic Tanzania Project and traveled with the team on two occasions to Tanzania. Her wonderful clinical skills have impacted so many lives both in the U.S. and Africa. Her joy of life, sense of humor and commitment to serving the underserved will be remembered and treasured by all who knew her. Fika Salama, Phyllis. Safe Travels.

https://phil-simon-clinic-tanzania-project.networkforgood.c In Celebration of International Women’s Day A Word from the President of PSCTP... Today, March 8, 2021 is designated as International Women’s Day. The Phil Simon Clinic Tanzania Project is dedicated to serving all underserved people in East Africa , but our organization has been uniquely impacted by women. Women have been prominently represented in our volunteer teams, our Tanzanian scholarship recipients, our African colleagues, our Board, our donors and, perhaps most importantly, the many thousands of people who have received multidisciplinary care from our project. From the ladies who courageously gathered together for our first HIV seropositive support group in the early days of the Project to the professional Tanzanian women who are now attending medical and graduate school, we salute their determination, dedication and contributions. - Kimberly Shriner, M.D., Founder and President, The Phil Simon Clinic Tanzania Project If you educate a woman, you can change the world. -Rebeka Gurti, 4th year medical student and PSCTP Scholarship Recipient

(From Dr. Shriner) It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved friend, translator and safari guide, Pascal Sirikwa. After a long battle with pneumonia, he passed away quietly this morning with his family at his side. Pascal has been an integral part of our project in Tanzania. He and Lesikar Sabore were with us on the very first trip and have become wonderful members of the project and the Phil Simon family ever since. We all share many fond memorie...s of working with Pascal in the clinics where he was an invaluable resource as a translator. He was one of the outstanding safari guides of Hoopoe Safaris and all of us benefited from his amazing skills at spotting animals and telling us all about them. Pascal was warm, intelligent, funny and, definitely, the Male Impala of our pack. I remember many warm African days stretched out on the top of his Land Rover watching lions and elephants; cheetahs and hyenas. He will be missed by us all and we all want to send his family our best wishes and thoughts. In his honor, The Phil Simon Clinic Tanzania Project will establish the Pascal Sirikwa Memorial Fund to provide funding for future translators for our organization. We will be putting together a memorial on our website (www.philsimontanzania.org) and you and /or friends can donate to it through PayPal. Please specify that your donation is in honor of Pascal. Fika Salama, Pascal! Safe journey, our friend, we love you and will miss you.
