At the 1967 Nürburgring 1000 Kms race, Porsche 910s famously finished 1-2-3-4, giving Porsche its third outright win at a major World Sportscar Championship event. Despite being derived from the dual-purpose 906, the 910 was a true prototype race car and the first of many to be built by Porsche. What is your favorite Porsche race car? : IamTed7 Car Photography

The Jaguar XJ-220 got its name from its estimated top speed of 220 mp/h. The fastest production vehicle at the time, the XJ-220 has a twin-turbo, 3.5-liter V-6 engine that produces 542hp. Due to declining demand for #supercars during the 1990s, the market was quickly saturated, and only 350 XJ-220’s were made. Which era of supercars do you prefer the 90s or current? Secretly fabricated entirely by hand in the Yamaha factory in Shizuoka, Japan, the Toyota 2000GT was introduced in 1965 at the Tokyo Motor Show and was considered so exciting and desirable that two were transformed into roadsters for the 1967 James Bond movie You Only Live Twice. Like other belly tank racers of the day, the King and Hansen streamliner was designed around a surplus under-wing fuel tank from a military airplane for maximum aerodynamic efficiency. The King & Hansen belly tank achieved a top speed of 118.89 miles per hour at the SCTA Time Trials at El Mirage dry lake. : IamTed7 Car Photography #motorsport #hotrod

Ol’ Yaller Mark IX is among the last race cars designed and built by Southern California hot rod legend, Max Balchowsky, whose well-engineered race cars were regarded as unrefined junkyard dogs and compared to the dog in Disney’s film, Old Yeller (1957). Despite its makeup, Ol' Yaller Mark IX prevailed over expensive exotics in many races all over the country. Comment below which Ol' Yaller is your favorite! : @iamted7... #petersenmuseum #thepetersen #legendsoflosangeles #vintageracing #racecar #hotrod

Designed by Ed Newton and constructed in fiberglass by Ed Roth, the Orbitron perfectly represents the space age aesthetic of the 1960s, with its asymmetrical design and bubble top. Constructed using separate red, green, and blue (RGB) lights, the headlight is intended to produce a single white beam when mixed, much like the integrated color television, connecting interior and exterior elements. : IamTed7 Car Photography #petersenmuseum #thepetersen #autodidactic #juxtapoz #ednewton #edroth #customization

This race car was the first Indy Eagle constructed by Santa Ana-based All American Racers (AAR), and one of six built to compete in the 1966 Indianapolis 500. Race car designer and engineer Len Terry developed the design of the Indy Eagle, which was based on the Indy-winning, rear-engine Lotus 38. : IamTed7 Car Photography

The So-Cal Special, created by the founder of the original So-Cal Speed Shop, Alex Xydias, is the most famous of the belly tanks built. It began toppling records as soon as it hit the salt flats and dry lakes, but its most memorable performance came in 1952 at Bonneville when the car shattered five class records reaching a speed in excess of 198mph! @iamted7

The Ferrari166 MM features an overhead cam V-12 engine similar to those of its predecessors, but weighed substantially less thanks to its superleggera ("superlight") body by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan. The "MM" in the model designation stands for Mille Miglia, an iconic Italian long-distance race won by this car in 1949.

Regarded as the one of the most important cars in #hotrod history, this coupe was built by brothers Bob and Dick Pierson. The brothers purchased this 1934 #Ford for just $25 in the early 1940's and modified it to this amazing creation. Its distinct profile was created by chopping the top and laying back the windshield to meet the windshield height regulation and minimize wind resistance. This design allowed it to achieve over 165MPH on the dry lakes in the 1953.
