Berkely sunset last night . What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset. Crowfoot... . . . . . #petegyoga #iwalkinbeauty #dogwalkwithzoey #themightyquinnguinosso See more

Happy Valentine's Day My Loves XO The time will come when, with elation you will greet yourself arriving at your own door, in your own mirror ... and each will smile at the other's welcome, and say, sit here. Eat. You will love again the stranger who was your self. Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart to itself, to the stranger who has loved you all your life, whom you ignored for another, who knows you by heart. Take down the love letters from the bookshelf, the photographs, the desperate notes, peel your own image from the mirror. Sit. Feast on your life. - Love After Love by Derek Walcott See more

Every day is a good day to make a resolution for beginning a new way of living, but the New Year's Day holiday provides a good focus for reviewing our lives and resolving to live each day with conscious attention.... - Jonathan Lockwood Huie The quality of your yoga practice is determined by the focus and clarity of your attention. In these dire times of darkness and struggle, the most persistent and compelling question is - what are you doing to bring more light into the world? This is the question that I am asking myself right now. Because what the world needs right now are people who do the work to become a beacon of light. People who help to ease the suffering of others. Whether it be by sharing a smile, a kind word, gratitude, empathetic joy, gracefully speaking truth to power, donating to a cause ...you believe in, cultivating understanding, working toward forgiveness, a compassionate act,....the list goes on and on. When it gets dark out we need to dig deeper to find the light. Become a beacon of light and pass it on to those around you. The world needs you (us).

Do not allow the world situation to depress you or drag you down. . I tell you to see all that is taking place ... as a cleansing process, a very necessary process. . When you have poison in your system and a boil develops, that poison has to be removed or dispersed before healing takes place. . So with the world situation there is much poison, much darkness and evil, which has to be transmuted. . That is why this time in the world's evolution is such a very painful and distressing time. . You can help so much by radiating more and more Light, by being able to rise above the present situation and not allowing yourselves to become part of it. The attitude of gratitude is the highest yoga. ~ Yogi Bhajan It’s certainly an interesting time to be alive. With the reality of the pandemic and our shift in our normal way of living. There can be a focus on what is missing from our lives. The fear of the un-known. The anger and disappointment of a botched approach to dealing with the pandemic challenges that have caused so many hardships. Etc. Both lack and abundance exist simultaneously in our lives, as side-by-side re...alities. In yoga we cultivate a drishti which is creating a focal point when we are practicing yoga. In essence we are practicing what we focus on to support creating balance and a shift in our awareness to buttress the journey. And so our yoga practice off the mat can be to shift our attention to our abundance. To the things in life that ARE working and how we are being supported. Having a roof over our heads, friends and family that support us (even if they are not in our physical space), food in our refrigerator and cupboards, the joys of nature, pets to adore, love, work, etc Our eyes wide open, paying attention, seeing the beauty in these moments, learning not to engage with depressing, frightening stories and looking for compassion and joy in each moment. We are here, playing with our whole heart and connecting to gratitude for the simple truth of being alive and to witness sweetness in whatever form it’s being presented to us in this very moment. With a deep bow of gratitude and love for walking this path with me with all of it's trials and tribulations. There is beauty everywhere for those that bother to look. "The paradox of all this is that only when we are in the here and now can we really get filled up and be nourished by life. Life takes place only in the present. If you are obsessing about yesterday or planning for tomorrow, you will be unable to take in and receive whatever is in front of you that can be nourishing: a smile from a child, a compliment from a friend, the scent of a rose, a favorite tune, a brilliant sunset." - Anita Johnston Come do some yoga, watch the sunset... and unplug at Crowns Beach Alameda. I have never been so happy to see 95 on my air quality index meter app. For those of you that don’t live in California, there are apps to track air quality and they are being used by everybody in the whole state to know if it’s safe to go outside. It pretty much hasn’t been safe to go outside for the last week. The shelter in place is pretty challenging but then add in not being able to go outside because of the smoke from the fires and add in trying to keep a toddler engaged and happy without access to our garden and the parks and our walks....well it’s pretty grueling. And so - I am sooo happy to get outside with Quinn for a walk and enjoy the fresh air.

As we know, anything can happen in life, and we have no control of any of it. What we can do is enjoy treasure every moment... we have with loved ones, be grateful for what we have, and learn to be present and available such that we can approach any life situation with a heart filled with unconditional love and acceptance. - Cheri Huber Some of you may have heard already, but if you haven't, all of the Yoga Tree and Yoga Works Studios are going into 'hibernation". As I write this message, there are tears welling up in my eyes with gratitude and love. It was almost 20 years ago when I walked into Yoga Tree Valencia and took my first yoga class there. Rusty Wells was teaching, and his share of yoga, sweat, music, community, sense of humor, and dharma talks knocked my socks off. I got hooked. All of these amazing peeps where there practicing yoga Les Leventhal, Tom Lee, Tim Floreen, Cindy Storman, Wendy K Yalom, Monica Merlitti, Carolyn Cohen. Shortly after, Yoga Tree Castro opened and Janet Stone's sweet soulful, playful classes called to me. So much so that I began assisting her. I think Kerri Kelly and I were her first assistants. This was when she was still teaching the 4:30 PM class. And believe it or not, occasionally when I would show up to assist, there would be less than 20 people at her class so Janet would suggest I practice instead. In 2006 I ventured to LA to do a teacher training with Ana Forrest. I was reluctant to teach at first but found that sharing the practice as a teacher was just as transformative for myself as it was being a student. Yoga Tree was one of the first studios to offer me an opportunity to teach. (Yoga Company in San Ramon was the first.) I want to thank Tim Dale and Tara Dale for giving me that opportunity. Teaching Yoga Classes, Yoga Tree Teacher Trainings, Yoga Tree Advanced Teacher Trainings, Workshops. And for opening up Yoga Tree Telegraph where I was able to share my LTP teacher training. What an amazing community to be a part of and help to create. I don’t say this as a hyperoble those moments at Yoga Tree with the practice and the teachers and the community and the staff and the students have changed my life forever. Through the practice, I learned to enjoy and treasure every moment with loved ones, to be grateful for what I have, and to be present. I am not sure where we will land on the other side of this, but know that I have a heart full of unconditional love and am waiting to share it with you. Much love - Pete
