Okay, so I'm a little twisted. One of my favorite Christmas greens was hemlock.

One of the things I didn't like about the holidays were the wire service (FTD, 1-800 Flowers, etc.) containers and arrangements. The containers we purchased were too expensive and recipes for their arrangements were made with fewer flowers and expensive add-ins. I always felt that when someone bought flowers either for themselves or as a gift, they wanted flowers!

The weekend after Thanksgiving was always great. Everyone Black Friday shopping left me in relative peace to dive into all of the Holiday decorations and containers. Most of you probably know this was my favorite time of year, starting even before Thanksgiving. I would usually purchase Christmas greens the first week in November (if not earlier). I could never wait until December to start using them. All of my Thanksgiving arrangements, including centerpieces had Christmas greens mixed into the incredible selection of regular greens.

Another Thanksgiving has come and gone and I still miss making flower arrangements!

I was told, a long, long time ago that the only true blue flower was Cornflower. Boy, was I wrong! Lupines, salvias, morning glories, balloon flowers, poppies, grape hyacinths and ageratums are also considered blue flowers. Unfortunately, we don't see many of these at the flowers mart and I think most are actually shades of lavender and deep purple. I guess the old saying, "if you close one eye and squint with the other....." applies.

Anniversary Arrangement

In one of the original flower charts I ever saw (30 years ago), a yellow rose signified "Decrease of love or jealousy"! Yellow roses and yellow flowers are traditionally used for for friendship and also happiness, joy and new beginnings. The next time someone in your life needs cheering up, encouragement, or is celebrating a new beginning, think about sending an arrangement including a few varieties of yellow flowers.
