Update: Still behind, but there are still thousands of votes to count. Next update on Tuesday. We've been getting asked a lot if we'll initiate a recount if it stays under 1% after all the votes are in, so we can make sure every vote is properly counted. Our team isn't sure, and it costs a lot of money to do a recount. What do you think? Will you pitch in if it comes to that?
The race is still too close to call after the last update! With thousands of ballots to count, the next update is Tuesday at 6pm. The gap between us and 2nd place increased by 19 votes, but closed by .09% We're confident that once all the votes are counted, we'll be heading to the runoff. Good luck to my fellow candidates, this isn't easy for any of us.
Hey #TeamPenny, the race is still too close to call, but we're starting to take down our signs. If you can help get back signs to us, please drop them off at 4079 Mission Inn Ave in Riverside, or message us here to arrange a pickup. We're gonna need them for November!
The District 2 election is too close to call! 190,000 ballots were cast county-wide, and 123,000 mail in and provisional ballots still need to be counted (County-wide.) We're less than 1% behind - next update is on Friday at 6pm. I've never run for office before, I never even dreamed of doing it. We started this campaign because our community was tired of the status quo in Riverside County, and residents asked me to step up to the plate. I couldn't say no to an offer of a go...od fight. We started this campaign with nothing but a message and a lifelong record of service to our community, but we still managed to go toe-to-toe with very powerful people, including the Mayor of the largest city in the district, a former State Assemblyman, and a longtime Riverside Councilman. We are less than 2.5% away from the front runner, and less than 1% away from the runoff. This is a race that could change dramatically in the next week as the remaining votes are counted. Thank you #TeamPenny for all your hard work!
We started this campaign with nothing but a message and a 40 year record of service. Today is election day, and #TeamPenny is proud of the grassroots organizing and community fundraising that brought us to this point. This election is about more than a candidate, it's about the future of our community, and a question of who holds the power in Riverside County. Are we going to let outside developers, corporations, bureaucrats and politicians dictate the future of Inland Empire...? Or are we going to put our community back in charge? I've lived in Riverside County my entire life. I still live in the same little house on Hastings Street in Glen Avon (Jurupa Valley) that a bunch of working class moms worked out of to protect our children from dangerous chemicals from the Stringfellow Acid Pits. We've got work to do in our community, and I hope I have your vote. https://www.votepennynewman.com/howtovote/
This race is important; there are more people in Riverside County than in Wyoming! - Delaine Eastin

As County Supervisor, Penny will work to dismantle systematic racism in our justice system that continues to target communities of color, and makes it difficult for the formerly incarcerated to integrate back into society. "Prevention is always the cheaper option, we should focus on prevention of crime, not locking away our population, especially people of color. Focusing on prevention will also save us money in the long term. We must dismantle policies in government and law... enforcement that make it nearly impossible for the formerly incarcerated to integrate back into society." https://www.votepennynewman.com/issues/
The team knows we can always count on Jennifer to show up for a phonebank shift! Jennifer worked with the legal team during the fight over the #StringfellowAcidPits, and today she is a member of LIUNA Local 777. "Penny has done so much for the community, she's been keeping Riverside County accountable for years. She really cares about the community she lives in, and local working families. I know there's a lot she can still do for our community, for Riverside County." #TeamPenny
Thank you to the UCR students for helping out with phone banking #StudentsforPenny
From Penny's retirement celebration: "[Empowerment is] not something we're giving to somebody, that is anointed, it's helping them discover the power that they have, and the skills and the value that they bring to the discussion." - Penny

Special thanks to the grassroots group Postcards To Voters, which brought over 800 volunteers around the country to #TeamPenny. These volunteers wrote personal, handwritten postcards to thousands of voters throughout the district in support of our campaign for Riverside County Supervisor - District 2. Thank you for being part of the team!
