This is a Victor Victapen Convertible fountain pen in gray green swirled marble celluloid and a Victapen rust marble celluloid pen and pencil set, all c. 1933-1936. Victapen was a brand sold by the U. S. Victor Fountain Pen Company of New York, New York. The 3 7/8 inch long pen and pencil was sold as a set by mail order for $1.00 plus ten cents postage, including a personalized leather pen case. Advertised as a men's vest pocket or ladies pen set, the pen's end cap and pen...cil's clip top could be unscrewed, and the pen and pencil could be reassembled into a 5 1/2 inch long pen and pencil combo. The pen is a bulb filler with a breather tube, activated by removing the blind cap and squeezing the exposed in sac to fill. This system was patented on July 18, 1933 by Edward Hugetz. The barrel is stamped NEW YORK over VICTAPEN next to MADE IN over U. S. A. all over U. S. PAT. JULY 18 '33. Typically found fitted with a gold plated stainless steel nib that was stamped VICTOR over U.S.A. The trim appears to be rhodium or chrome plated. These small pens came in a variety of celluloids, including stripes similar to the Conklin Glider, marbled colors, and dashed stripes. At least three clip designs are observed, with two shown here. These are featured in the Spring 2021 Pennant, the magazine of the Pen Collectors of America. If you aren't a member of the Pen Collectors of America - You Should Be. Message from the Board of the PCA: We are sorry to hear that members have not received their Pennant Fall issue yet. We confirmed that our printer delivered the magazines to the USPS on Thursday 11/19. They were mailed at the US Postal Service Standard A Rate, which under normal circumstances would take from 12 - 15 working days to get delivered. The USPS is has told our printer "with everything going on right now, one should allow an extra two weeks added on top on the s...tandard delivery time." Unfortunately they are telling us it can take close to a month before members start receiving their copies. We really appreciate your patience and understanding on this and hope you enjoy the current issue and calendar when it arrives.
