One of my interests in otolaryngology is the treatment of vascular anomalies. It's of personal interest too as I was born with a lymphatic malformation, one of several types of congenital vascular anomalies.

Our practice continues to grow in large part due to referrals from our patients. We appreciate feedback in order to continue to improve our care and service to the community!

'Tis the season for colds and ear infections! If you think your child may be getting too many colds or ear infections, we would be happy to evaluate their ears, noses, and throats! It's what we do!

Thank you for the kind words. It's always a pleasure to be reminded why I became a pediatric otolaryngologist after all the long hours of studying and taking care of patients! I'm happy to see patients with lymphatic malformations of all ages although my primary practice is pediatric ENT.

Honored to speak at UCSF Otolaryngology Update over this last week! It is a biannual course that is attended by otolaryngologists around the world. I was invited to speak about my experience with intracapsular tonsillectomy and the workup of children with enlarged lymph nodes in the neck.

Back to School! Children who don't sleep well due to obstructive sleep apnea can have a hard time paying attention in class and learning. Some children have enlarged tonsils and adenoids that can be removed to help with sleep and school performance. In my practice, most children undergo intracapsular tonsillectomy instead of the traditional method of tonsil removal. Much less pain and decreased risk of bleeding. Please call today if you'd like a consultation!

We are proud at CHOC ENT to care for children of all ages with thyroid disorders. I have special interest and expertise in thyroid surgery. Please call if you are interested in a consultation. New guidelines for the workup and treatment of pediatric thyroid disease were released recently by the American Thyroid Association. Their website is a wealth of information for patients and their families.

Here is a video of my fellowship mentor Dr. Koltai performing an intracapsular tonsillectomy. It is a surgery that he helped to develop and re-popularize. I am fortunate to have trained under his watchful eye. https://youtu.be/Ybks4_EHPDM

Here is a link to a paper I wrote regarding thyroglossal duct cysts. Imaging of these benign tumors is necessary, but in my research, CT or MRI were not more helpful to the surgeon than ultrasound. CT exposes children to radiation and MRI often requires sedation or anesthesia in young children.
