OK Cat Lovers, we need your help!! Stormy is the longest resident at the Sacramento SPCA and has been with us since March. Stormy has a lot of "strikes" against... her: -She's solid black (often the most difficult cat to adopt) -She's a senior (she was adopted from us as a kitten 13 years ago!) -She has some medical issues (she has a very sensitive tummy and requires a special diet. Even with this special diet, she can still vomit from time to time.) -It's kitten season and everyone wants kittens! What Stormy DOES have going for her is she is one of the nicest cats around! She loves to be near people, get pets and love. And her adoption fee is sponsored! Unfortunately, our cat posts on our main Facebook page tend to not get a lot of likes and shares, so we thought we'd reach out to you - our cat loving community - for help! Can you share this post with other cat lovers you know? We think Stormy needs one of "us" - a totally sane cat person who won't mind kitty vomits and wants to adopt a hard-to-place kitty. Thank you!

Today we have the pleasure of meeting Penny the Dalmatian to evaluate her behavior and come up with a training plan to help her be at her best. One of the goal...s Penny's family has is to access how dog friendly she is and work on building her social confidence with other pups. So we enlisted the help of Boston, Abby, Bandon and Charlie to show Penny how much fun making new friends is. At first, Penny was interested but unsure. She stood far away by the exit gate cautiously watching. As she saw nothing scary was happening, she approached to investigate further. Penny sniffed the other dogs and was friendly but a little tense. She stood in the background observing the dogs play as she built her comfort. When Penny started greeting the other dogs, she liked to long bouts of sniffing to fully process information about the other dogs. She was quick to show submissive body language like crouching, lowering herself, and rolling onto her back. But the more time Penny spent around the other pups, the more she recognized that she was safe and she became relaxed and wanted to be more social with her new friends. This is what training is all about! Helping Penny have positive experiences so that she knows how to behave when encountering dogs out in the world. Way to be brave Penny!

Peaceful Pets is excited to announce we have our very own Certified Control Unleashed Instructor! As if this wasn’t exciting enough, Dana is also the first certified instructor of this program in California! At its core Control Unleashed is about being in conversation with your dog. The exercises throughout the program help dogs learn calmness and focus. They can help dogs and their handlers work through over reactivity issues and stranger danger as well. A common theme ...throughout Control Unleashed is empowerment. Giving dogs choice to participate in their training or counter conditioning process. As the humans, we control every single aspect of our dogs lives. Giving them a say (and listening to them) when we’re asking them to confront their fears is very powerful. Whether it’s a puppy program, creating a focused & confident dog, or taking your dog from reactive to relaxed, there’s Control Unleashed exercises for everyone! While we’ve already incorporated some of these exercises into our training programs. Stay tuned for future programs offered that will be dedicated to this practice. Here’s a sneak peak: https://youtu.be/lQECjt3VXIk

Hello Peaceful Pets Family! These sweet kitties are in need of a new home or foster. One of our clients is very ill and can no longer care for them. This is a heartbreaking decision for her and we’re trying to help so that she can have some peace of mind before she begins surgeries and treatment for her illness. They need a new home within 2-3 weeks to avoid being surrendered. Please help if you can or share. Any serious inquiries can contact us and we will put in touch with the owner. Thank you
