Letters to Our Heroes To our unsung and unnamed heroes, We do not know your names. We do not know your stories. However, we all know about your influence and your support. You are the ones who refused to believe that separate was never equal. You are the many who occupied lunch counters at diners and restaurants where you were unwelcomed. You are the many who carpooled and walked miles to boycott injustice. You are the multitude who marched from Selma to Montgomery to pro...test police brutality. You are the 5,000 children who marched and were arrested in the fight to end segregation. You are the 250,000 who marched to the Capital lawn to protest economic and social injustice. You are the millions who lived and died, for a future, a vision, a dream that you would never see. We do not know your names but we know that we stand on the remnants of your resilience and dedication to true democracy. We may not know your names but we owe you so much. We offer you a small token of gratitude. Letters to Our Heroes Dear Ruby Bridges, Little did you know that at six years old you were going to make an impact on the world forever. You sure made an impact on me. Ruby Bridges you were the first African-American child to integrate in all white public elementary school in the south. You wanted to be friends with kids who looked nothing like you but instead had to see them being pulled away and eventually pulled out the school because they wanted nothing to do with a Af...rican American Child. You heard and saw the worse at a very young age, but you were so fearless and that is the reason why you are and will always be one of my biggest inspirations. I thank you for teaching me a thing or two about the importance of quiet power! You see, because of you I know I don’t have to be the loudest and I don’t need to say much, but my actions will always speak for me. Your action to stay seated changed the trajectory of the Civil Rights Movement for the better. Thank... you for your demonstration of quiet power. One in particular that I have found most remarkable is that you gave a voice to the voiceless. Your ‘I have a dream’ speech still resonates as one of the most powerful speeches in American history that brings everyone together in unity. You pursued what was right when turmoil and division plagued our nation. You stood strong ...when others would have folded. For that I just want to say thank you.
