Something a little different for us. Usually it’s mostly iron with some wood, but this time our client asked for more wood than iron. They gave us some ideas and we came up with this little mid century modern gem! A horizontal wood layout was chosen but I wanted to add a little something extra to this gate so we went ahead and puzzled the opening. after each strip was ripped down, sanded smooth, and profit into its place, we gave this beautiful clear redwood the royal treat...ment and coated it with Masterclear Supreme by @modernmastersinc . The frame was coated a delicate light grey by @ludikrskustomz_powdercoating so it wouldn’t overpower the wood, and of course we added a beautiful @kwikset handle set for the finishing touches. Some friends of mine asked if we could build them 4 gates to go along with their beautiful Spanish themed home. Once we agreed on the design we began to fabricate but when it came time to track down the wood, we learned that there is a national shortage on redwood, especially in Southern California, due to Covid. After weeks of searching, we finally located a supplier in Arizona with stock and I had my nephew (who lives in AZ) pick the wood up and drive it out to us! Thank you Nephew! Who wouldn’t want this at their house!? The wood is absolutely stunning! Once again I wasn’t sold on the idea of doing horizontal wood with old world embellishments, and once agin my client proved me wrong. If you’re not listening, you’re not learning. We needed something that would tie this style gate to tour clients home. They had some sconces (last picture) hung in various places around the property and I suggested to integrate the pattern of the sconces into the upper wi...ndow area of the gate. They loved the idea! I was very skeptical to build this style gate. Our client has a keen eye for design that I definitely wouldn’t have seen. I fought her all the way until the start of fabrication. Doing horizontal composite wood with clavos and flat bar strapping seemed like too many conflicting styles to me. At the end of the day, you dream it, we build it! Heavy duty 2 framework, Black Texture powder coat by @ludikrskustomz_powdercoating , custom made dummy hinge straps to match... the garage, a highly secure jet black @lockeyusa combination lever on both gates, finished off with beautiful Island Mist composite wood by @trexcompany makes this set of gates one of my favorites of all time! So much to talk about with this set of gates. I really wanted to deliver a great product to our client. They had a pretty clear picture in their mind for their gates and I could tell immediately that they were very detail oriented and I knew we had our work cut out for us. When we met to discuss design, i feel like we connected, and they put their trust in us to take their vision and turn it into something beautiful. The 2x4 framing gives them a pretty unique look. You don’t ...often see smaller residential gates built out of 2x4 steel tube. The 9 inch arch over only a 50 inch spread was a beast of a job considering the tube had to be 3/16 thick to avoid too much distortion. Heavy duty sheet metal backing. I personally prefer solid sheet backing over perforated mesh because I think it adds much more character and security. The welding on these gates is all top notch. Our team did an amazing job on making sure the small details were just as important as the large details. Black texture powder coat by @ludikrskustomz_powdercoating was perfect as usual and the Satin Nickel Tustin lever set by @kwikset finished off the cosmetics and functionality flawlessly! Our clients were very happy with the end result, and I can’t help but feel extremely humbled and satisfied because of how they showed their appreciation for our efforts.
