So pleased to have two movements of Family Matters performed by Martha and Monica! And this will be my first live performance as an audience member (or performer) since we all locked down 15 months ago. What a great way to return!

So pleased with the reception for Breathing At the Boundaries, our collaboration with the Margaret Jenkins Dance Company that premiered streamed on Tuesday Dec. 29th. The project brought together the same core team of artists that created the 1993's The Gates: Margy Jenkins, Alex Nichols, Michael Palmer, Rinde Eckert and myself. Here's the SF Chronicle's very generous review of this latest collaboration collaboration (and that can been on-line through Jan. 6th).

Paul, what have YOU been doing? is a question I’ve answered a lot lately. I devoted the past several days to finishing the final mixes for the music for Breathing at the Boundaries, a unique filmed collaboration with the Margaret Jenkins Dance Company and an all-star set of collaborating artists including Rinde Eckert, Alexander V. Nichols, and Michael Palmer. We’ve created this work specifically for the video medium and broadcast. The music is performed by the Dresher Davel... Duo (Paul Dresher, Joel Davel) with guest artist Rinde Eckert along with gorgeous pre-recorded performances by cellist Ashley Bathgate and Lisa Moore. Breathing at the Boundaries will premiere TODAY at 6 PM Pacific time and will then be available for streaming through January 6. For links to attend the premiere broadcast live and post-show Q&A or to stream it after the premiere, please visit Margaret Jenkins Dance Company website https://www.mjdc.org/

It was great to host the great pianist Sarah Cahill and videographer John Sanborn for their recording sessions in our studio last weekend. I can't wait to hear the whole concert when it's broadcast.

Here's a really engaging interview with theater dramaturg Philippa Kelly, who just happens to be my lovely wife. (The Ensemble has supported Philippa's work with Awele Makeka and her Theater Program at Skyline High School in Oakland for several years.) If you ever wondered what a dramaturg actually does, here's one very entertaining perspective on that: https://aisleseatreview.com//asr-not-so-random-question-t/

It is SO FAR beyond the time that we as a society can tolerate ANYMORE this systematic injustice (the polite way of saying "MURDER"). Is it going to really take burning cities to put a stop to the murder of innocent people of color? That would truly be a very sad commentary on our capacity to change as a culture.

I'm really pleased that this Dresher Double Duo concert from 2014 is being rebroadcast/rewebcast on the program WGTEWednesday. We played four works, including Glimpsed From Afar, Double Ikat, the violin piano duo Racer, and one of the very few recent performances of my solo electric guitar and live looping work from 1982 - Dark Blue Circumstance.

Here's a great video by my long-time collaborator Joel Davel doing an great improvised performance using a sound pallet for his Marimba Lumina that would have been what he used for our cancelled performance of "They Will Have Been So Beautiful", the Dresher Ensemble Electro-Acoustic Band's collaboration with the great singer/composer/electronic musician Amy X Neuburg.

It was such a pleasure to produce a performance of this amazing work in an intimate performance in our studio with a great audience. Thanks to Karen Bentley Pollick for suggesting the idea for the concert, for Karen, Marja and Monica for their dedication to playing it beautifully, to Tom Steenland for releasing the CD of the work, Norman Bookstein for supporting some of the costs of the performance and of course to Zibuokle for composing such a powerful work and for joining us for the performance.

The Sound Maze is on the road again! Coming to San Antonio for FOUR MONTHS! So, literally as I write this, the truck pulling a 53 foot trailer filled with the Sound Maze is on its way to San Antonio, Texas, where this interactive invented instrument installation will reside at the Doseum, an amazing children's museum here in Alamo town. We'll start to install it tomorrow, Monday, Jan. 27th and the exhibition opens next Saturday, Feb. 1. This will the project's longest in...stallation yet and the first time in a children's museum. Photo 1: Our crew - Randy Harris, Jay Harris and me (several others not in this image) loading the container in our warehouse on Thursday morning Photo 2: Robert Reetz and I arrived here yesterday (Saturday) afternoon and while driving around looking for dinner and a grocery store we passed under four of these banners on Broadway announcing the exhibition. You can imagine our excitement, sort of like "our name in lights" but different...
