Carbs make you fat! You can’t eat carbs at night! Eliminating carbs is the only way to lose weight!... You can’t lose weight because you are addicted to carbs! I’m sorry that we have all been led to believe at least one of these statements in our lives. I actually held fast to the thought that the Atkins diet was actually the only way I was going to lose weight. But I couldn’t even stick to it for longer than a month or so. And I was so so so tired even while slamming a 6 pack of Diet Coke everyday to curb my sweet cravings. And I never really lost more than 6-7 pounds just to gain it back. I would eat alllll of the cheese and pepperoni off the top of a whole pizza because I was told it was healthy. But then I couldnt resist having just a few bites of the crust to tide me over. Sorry #ketosis The thing is...carbs aren’t making you fat or hindering your ability to lose weight. Your total caloric intake is. If you are not in a deficit you won’t see progress. Obviously eating a whole pizza worth of cheese and pepperoni wasn’t going to help me lose it either. The great thing about your carbs, when dieting down and counting macros, is they can be the macro you get to adjust and change to your needs and preferences. The accuracy of how someone may feel entering into a weight loss phase. Same babes same. I know how hard it is to lose the pounds. I do. It takes work and tenacity. ... You might think it doesn’t happen until your have your mind right BUT a lot of times you have to just start taking action and other positive aspects begin to happen as a result. I meant to start a mini-cut post holidays but honestly it was a hard thing to do last several weeks. Even though each day has waves of feeling up and down, I know for FACT I just have to get going. Action determines your outcome My 2 best actions that allow me to be successful: Meal prepping. It is my standard. It is a thing that holds my day together better to stay on track. Making my schedule for workouts, appointments, everything. That way I have more direction even if thing go stray. Make yourself accountable. Share it/declare it and find support. I’m pretty good at showing up. But I was thinking I might need some extra accountability next few weeks. So.... I will be sharing more details daily about my cut to keep myself more accountable Ok? Someone asked me this recently. I looked straight at her and said: Calorie Deficit. ... Because it’s true. Cardio can help you along the way. The cardio aspect of a fitness routine just allows you to create a higher calorie expenditure. There is no difference in the treadmill, the bike, elliptical, stair masters. What makes the difference is how you perform in that type of cardio. But I always feel so much leaner when I run ......me too. But it is because I get the highest calorie output running, if I am paying attention to the heart rate monitor. (Which is not always the best indicator of a good workout keep in mind) Someone who has physical limitation when it comes to running might get more out of an elliptical. Your cardio option should depend on your accessibility, preference and limitations. You will get more out of what you can perform better and enjoy the most. Cardio is good for heart health, circulation, endurance, stress relief and it can help with your calorie deficit. But if weight loss is your primary goal your nutrition needs to be in check. You know I didn’t know a damn thing about how to workout or what to eat for a long time. From the treadmill, I used to watch this lady walk by at the gym who I thought looked amazing. I just kept thinking if I spent another 10,15,20 minutes a day I’d be skinny enough to look like her. ... But guess what.... that lady wasn’t spending all her time on a damn treadmill. She was in the weight room. She would do a weight training workout and sometimes hop on the cardio machine, pick up her bag, shaker bottle and be done. And I would still be there deciding which cardio machine to get on next and fret about how long I was on it. It wasn’t until I worked with a trainer that he explained how muscle actually helps you lose weight AND how certain exercises would help me look good in a halter top I mean....I do love halter tops so.. What a sad life it would be to be stuck on cardio machines when there are so many ways to exercise! A journey doesn’t start out knowing it all and the biggest help for me was getting a coach. Even just to help set me in the right direction. That’s a big reason I love to coach, just give someone the direction they need to get results they want. Client Spotlight Today she and I were talking about a conversation she had with a friend. The friend asked her what she was better at, working out or eating right. She replied I don’t think I’m a rockstar at either one, but I’m trying everyday. ... There it is. She is putting in the effort where she can with what she can. It’s not perfect. It’s a work in progress. I will say I am so in awe of how she really has been showing up with so very much on her plate. Like so much. Yet, she knows how important it is to take care of herself for better quality of life and to be there for the cutest little man. AND she is just getting started. It’s hard. I understand. But the more you try everyday, the better the results will be. Y’all show some support for this mama. She’s been through it and definitely deserves some. #pgfitness #mombods #qualityoflife

If you don’t have your health, what do you have? Being underweight can be just as detrimental as being overweight. Maybe (maybe not) my mother wouldn’t be in the hospital right now for congestive heart failure for the lifestyle that she has unfortunately lived.... But maybe, years of chronic undereating, smoking and lack of activity played a very substantial role. Smoking is one of the worst things you can do to your body. For ALL the reasons. It also suppresses appetite. When you don’t consume enough nutrients your body becomes deficient. You lose brain function. Your emotional state is out of alignment. You have less energy for heart healthy movement. Mineral deficiencies lead to osteoporosis, which leads to even less daily movements. The thing is you can’t blame a lot of individuals for their health due to lack of education, support, mental health and/or economic circumstances. Sometimes I think in the health and nutrition field it can be easy to be a nutrition snob and overlook the many factors of how someone ends up in bad health. Or just place an overwhelming focus on how you look. The gap in the medical field and nutrition health is actually disturbing to me in many moments. Telling someone what to eat, promoting a specific eating style or branded diet puts a lot of people out of position to change their life. Being able to help someone understand what a better choice and how they can achieve it to the best of their capabilities has way more value to me. (Whether they take the advice or not) Even though my workshop is about how to shed some fat and build lean muscle, it also has very substantial topics that are in fact good for you as a whole. How many carbs am I supposed to have? Probably one of the biggest questions I get asked when I am setting my clients up with their nutrition goals. Welllll ...... ... IT DEPENDS! The population has been so inundated with low carb diet solutions it has created a very heightened anxiety over carbs. Then you have the other end of the spectrum that shows ig post after post in the regular consumption of donuts, cookies and pop tarts for that good pre workout fuel. Not that any of that is necessarily bad, it’s just very confusing. Realistically, it needs to match your metabolic needs, level of comfort and can be customized for your physique goals.
