Despite its name, a typical laptop computer should not be used on your lap for any length of time. Many laptops have intake / exhaust vents that are located on the bottom of the case. Your lap, bed, or pillow is the worst substrate for your laptop, and overheating can result. It's best to use a laptop on a desk, or other flat surface.

When you are downloading new software, or updating existing software, be careful of tricky advertisements. Most sites that offer software for download show advertisements from sponsors to help pay for their download services. If you visit one of these download sites, you will notice a lot of "download" buttons. Usually, only one of those download options is the correct link to download your software. The others are very deceptive, and if you click on any one of them, you may end up with software, or even malware that you didn't want! To avoid this, I recommend sticking to only a few download sites, and becoming very familiar with their website layout. You may need to study the page to determine which links are not advertisements.
