THERE IS STILL TIME TO APPLY FOR CITIZENSHIP AND THEN REGISTER TO VOTE! Olga Grosh, an attorney with Pasifika Immigration Law Group, has volunteered her service at many naturalization assistance workshops over the past two years. Grosh said that while she doesn’t ask people why they are applying for citizenship, she has recently seen many longtime legal residents applying for citizenship. One reason many don’t seek citizenship, Grosh said, is because the filing fee with U.S.... Citizenship and Immigration Services is $680. But she said this election has many people worried in the Valley. Not just those with unlawful status but also those with lawful status because of the perception toward immigrants, she said. Nobody wants to be an outsider. But Grosh said it’s important, not just for the right to vote, that immigrants naturalize. Citizenship is forever, she said. Residency can be taken away.

UPDATE: the US Consulate in Apia, Samoa is again conducting local interviews for non-immigrant visa applicants. Every two months, a consular officer will travel from the U.S. Consulate General in Auckland to our Embassy in Apia to interview applicants. Applicants must fill out the application online, on a computer, then make an appointment online, and pay the normal fee of US$160.00 or Samoan Tala equivalent to the Embassy the day of the appointment. The visiting consular officer can only conduct a limited number of visa interviews per visit. The number of applicants seeking interviews may exceed our interview capacity, so we may not be able to interview all applicants immediately.
TULARE COUNTY SCAM ALERT!! Tulare County residents have been receiving phone calls telling them they are facing fines because of missing jury duty. Victims are asked to pay a fine over the phone or risk a warrant being issued. Callers have claimed to be from the Tulare County Sheriff's Department, and from the County Assessor/Clerk-Recorder's Office. BE WARNED: Neither of these agencies collect fines over the phone. Never give your personal or financial information over the phone to anyone you don't know. If you receive one of these calls in any county, please call your local police department or Sheriff's Office.
"One for-profit prison company has found that incarcerating infants, toddlers, children, and mothersas long as they’re undocumented immigrantsis a great way to boost their revenue by upward of $49 million over the previous year....The company can thank President Obama. Facing enormous political pressure and eye-grabbing headlines, the Obama administration moved last summer to dramatically expand the federal government’s capacity for locking up young mothers and kids."

The court denied the request to begin the extended deferred action programs for childhood arrivals and parents of US citizens and resident children (new DACA and DAPA) while the courts examine Texas's claim that the programs offering temporary suspension of deportation are unlawful. This means we have to wait for the final court ruling in favor of the programs before the government can grant reprieve from removal on this basis. Please note that the original Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals announced in June of 2012 (old/original DACA) IS NOT AFFECTED. Please contact us if you have questions about the difference in the programs, and to see if you qualify for the existing, original DACA.
Olga Grosh, attorney for Pasifika Immigration Law Group in Fresno, said the current DACA program is alive and well and unaffected by the suit. Those who qualify would receive two-year deferred action permits under the original DACA if they apply, she said. Read more here: http://www.fresnobee.com/news/local/article21424959.html
