Past President Jhoana nominated Lion Alan to be the recipient of the most prestigious award in Lions Clubs. Yesterday, he was presented the Melvin Jones Fellowship at our bi-weekly meeting. Thank you Alan for being a great Lion and for taking the lead on planning our service projects this year!

Pasadena Lions volunteered to distribute food to those in need. Also, the Lions are doing the same in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. You know what they say, where there is a need, there is a Lion.

Vroman's Bookstore needs our business. Before you buy your next book purchase on Amazon or Audible, consider purchasing from one of the oldest independent bookstores in Southern California! This place is a Pasadena legend! Fun fact: During World War II, Vroman’s donated and delivered books to Japanese Americans interned at nearby camps, returning on several occasions despite being fired upon by camp guards. If you’re able, this is a great small business to support! https://www.vromansbookstore.com/ways-support-vromans

On Tuesday, October 6, join us at our 12:30 online meeting to hear Museum Director Mike Hudson talk about the collection and plans at the Printing House to care for and exhibit Keller's legacy. In January, the American Foundation for the Blind sent their AFB Helen Keller Archive to the Museum of the American Printing House for the Blind in Louisville. Here is a video from Lions Clubs International about Helen Keller’s encouraging message for Lions to become "Knights of the B...lind." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gN8kr8y7dHs&app=desktop See more

At Tuesday's meeting, Pasadena Memorial Trust awarded grants to Villa Esperanza Services and HEAR Center. Both nonprofits have given many opportunities to the Pasadena community, and it's our pleasure to support their endeavors. PS) Do you like classical music? HEAR Center has an amazing event coming up on October 3 which will help the organization meet their annual fundraising goal. You can visit their website for more information http://www.hearcenter.org/news-and-events/calendar/E231

Happily serving in our community! On Friday, Pasadena Lions assisted Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to distribute free food boxes to low-income older adults. In the first photo, Lions pictured are Alan, Donna, Diana, Tom, Dick, Calvin and Glenda. Thank you Vice President Alan for arranging our club’s participation.

On Friday morning, the Senior Center needs 4 more Lion volunteers to help us carry Los Angeles Regional Food Bank boxes to senior’s cars. There is hunger in Pasadena and we are trying to meet that need. Lions are asked to wear casual clothes and masks. We will provide the gloves if they don’t have any. Protective eyewear is suggested as well. Please call (626) 765-7154 or email [email protected] for the service project details.

We can't wait to see and hear your smiling faces on Tuesday, September 1st at our 12:30 meeting. This week's program speaker is Pasadena Now's Managing Editor, Andre Coleman! Mr. Coleman grew up in Altadena, and was educated in the Pasadena Unified School District. He has worked at The Pasadena Star News, Pasadena Weekly, and Pasadena Now publications. Mr. Coleman will share his views on where the City is currently from both a business and social perspective, and where he sees it going in the near-future given the Coronavirus pandemic. If you wish to join us, email [email protected] or call (626) 765-7154 for the Zoom Meeting information.
