Blanching celery plant with newspaper. Tied into place (with foliage exposed on top) about 15 days before harvest to reduce bitterness and pungency.

Happy September! Have you started thinking what you will plant for this next season? Here is a wonderful blog post about some companion planting. Enjoy! https://thekitchengarten.com/low-maintenance-fall-garden/
Not only did Night Owl Productions make our farm look beautiful, but they really highlighted our farming philosophy. Check out this video and the rest of their work on Vimeo!

February is the precursor to Spring in many places to it's a good time to start planning and prepping your garden.
Learn two techniques for thinning: how to snip away extras from established seedlings, and how to transplant baby seedlings to a new home without disrupting see...dlings you want to leave behind. Why can't you just pull out the extra seedlings? You risk damaging what seedlings you leave behind. Learn these two techniques for success every time.

On September 10, Pepperdine University student volunteers rode the bus from Malibu to Pasadena solely to share their enthusiasm and elbow grease with Pasadena Community Garden. Students distributed mulch throughout the garden, resealed the 60 wooden garden beds, weeded and, of course, posed for photos throughout the day. This is the third consecutive year Pepperdine students made the trek and helped spruce up the garden. PCG is most grateful for Pepperdine's continued support.
It's our biggest volunteer event of the year! 11 gardens, over 300 participants, and a huge impact on community gardens-- join us on September 10th!
One week until our next big event, The Knead to Give: Green Wish and Knead & Co.! Have you bought your tickets yet? https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-knead-to-give-powered-by-g
July is just around the corner. Though summer's oppressive heat is upon us and we're harvesting some of it's bounty; Fall's cool weather is just around the corner and we need to start planning for it. Let's get in a cool state of mind by starting the seeds of those cool-season crops now.
The tomato and artichoke plants are full of flowers with this heat. Tomatoes thrive in hot weather; whereas artichokes bloom and become inedible.
