We just want to Congratulate Karen on her finishing Rehab! This is her story... I am an 11 year uterine cancer survivor with chronic pain due to pelvic adhesions and secondary lymphedema AND I’m getting older (62). My left and right butt muscles and lower back became very painful to the point that I was not able to walk upstairs, squat to pick something up, lean over ... daily type stuff. After 8 months of this acutely painful condition my primary doctor recommended physic...al therapy. I have seen many PTs in my life - one during my cancer treatment who was great and others who were just ok. I discovered Dr. Mat Parker from Parker Physio and I find him steady and very thoughtful in his approach. We established achievable goals to strengthen my gluts and abdominal muscles to take over for my painful piriformis butt and back muscles and 6 weeks later , I’ve had no pain ! The instruction he gives is doable and customized and the follow up e-mails are very helpful. After 45+ days working at this I have actually incorporated and strengthening exercises into a daily routine which does not take much time and clearly has a big payoff. The first time I met Dr.Mat I thought hmmmm this might be the PT for me and I was right. See more

This is complicated. (*gulp*) Have you ever struggled to try and tell (or show), someone, how much you love and appreciate them? I know I have....... I have been incredibly blessed that I have the opportunity to help people stay active and mobile so they can keep doing the things they love doing. Now, running and operating a business has been one of the most challenging and rewarding things I've ever done. The ups and downs can be exhausting at times, but I wouldn't trade it for the world! And I wouldn't have the chance to be here doing what I love unless it was for a special someone... This person has been there for me every step of the way. One who supports me no matter what. A woman who works her ass off and doesn't care about recognition. A lady who does all the little things that many people may not notice (but I do...) She always makes sure my apartment has dish towels and sponges (who knew those were important lol). She ensures that I get an Easter basket with my favorite Whopper eggs every year no matter how old I am. Who always makes sure I have enough button-up shirts and polos for work. A lady who would never claim she's 'hip' but loves listening to artists like Pink and Drake. A lady so awesome she asked to voluntarily jump out of an airplane for her 65th birthday... Who is this incredible woman? My mom! Now if you're reading this there is a good chance that you're a mother, grandmother, or even a great grandmother.... So I want to express my gratitude in wishing you the happiest of Mother's Days! I know being a mother can be a thankless job at times but please know that you're appreciated! I don't know where I'd be if I didn't have the ongoing love and support from my mom. And although I probably don't tell her enough how much I love her I'm going to do my best today to show my appreciation. How? Great question...I'll be spending time with my two younger brothers helping my mom do something she's wanted for the longest time.... Helping her clean out her garage (I guess you have kids for the free labor right?) So in closing, I hope you all have a (much more) relaxing Mother's Day (than me), spending time with your family! P.S. If you are a husband or son reading this and you forgot a Mother's Day present....no need to worry! You can give her the belated gift of a great night's sleep by buying her a custom fit pillow. We are having a flash sale and offering 10% off for the next 3 days! Just *hit reply* to get more information :)

I've had several people ask how they can help out during these weird times . There is an organization doing WONDERFUL work called @stayhomesandiego! . The...y are delivering groceries to those over 65 who are unable to get groceries safely at this time (this was a delivery we did in Caramel Valley) . They are in desparate need of delivery drivers and donations including eggs, TP, disinfecting wipes, etc. . They operate out of a garage in Bay Park. Every little bit counts and we can all make a difference! You can find out more by heading to www.stayhomesd.com See more

When is the last time you thought about how you breathe? Strange question. I know. When we are born it's something our bodies do automatically. But what if we unknowingly picked up bad habits along the way affecting your health? What if you could help your kids and grandkids improve the way they speak, sleep, and swallow (or kick their thumb-sucking habit)? ... So on this episode of the Stay Healthy San Diego Podcast, I had the honor and privilege to speak to Danielle Klee, a speech-language pathologist and myofunctional therapist here in Encinitas. Danielle has worked with a wide variety of patients, ranging from adults diagnosed with aphasia and traumatic brain injuries at a university clinic to children diagnosed with Down Syndrome, Autism, microcephaly, and early speech and language delays in the private outpatient and public school settings. Listen to this episode to learn: What a thumb sucking party is and the importance of eliminating oral habits in kids What the heck is orofacial myofunctional disorder and how Danielle’s FASCINATING story of how she found this incredible niche as a myofunctional therapist The difference between a myofunctional therapist and a speech-language pathologist How myofunctional therapy can help with improving breathing, swallowing, and sleep apnea What an evaluation with Danielle looks like (don’t worry it’s not scary) Common mistakes parents make with their kids orofacial and breathing habits and how to AVOID them .And MUCH More!! An incredible article in the Washington Post on STRENGTH training as we age.... Some of my favorite quotes include "strength training is vital in avoiding injuries and staying independent as you age" "...picking up five-pound dumbbells and doing a few biceps curls won’t get you where you need to be"... "You need to be able to push, pull, hinge at the hips, carry and squat" If you aren't doing some sort of weightlifting and not sure where to start, send us a message and we can help get you going :) https://www.washingtonpost.com//88694832-3888-11ea-bf30-ad
