Often we hear teens say when I’m high I don’t feel anxious. And of course the THC in cannabis reduces stress in your body. But after your body metabolizes it, those high stress levels often come back worse than before. Dr. Richard Von Feldt, here. As I see teens use cannabis over time, I see how they struggle with anxiety. Cannabis can feel like a harmless way to cope with the stress in their lives. But substance use (yes, even cannabis) can actually increase adolescent anxiety over time. In fact, research shows us that students who used weekly during their teenage years were twice as likely as their non-using peers to struggle with anxiety into their late twenties even if they stopped using in their early twenties. #prevention #anxiety #teenhealth
