Socially distanced and masked (until your food came), the PAA Mix & Mingles are back at The Landings at Carlsbad!!! We had a great turnout at last night’s Palomar Airport Association meeting. Kay Sundaram, Ambassador at AOPA, updated everyone on AOPA’s High School Aviation STEM program...now in 200 high schools in 36 states with 8,000 students!!! AOPA: your freedom to fly You Can Fly Academy- there will be scholarships given - over $1,000,000 to 100 teachers and students,... applications information for High School students, details at https://youcanfly.aopa.org Robin Gartman gave a comprehensive history of the 99’s - The Ninety-Nines International’s Organization of Women Pilots started by 99 women in 1929 - Amelia Earhart, Jackie Cochran, Pancho Barnes, Louise Thaden, amongst other famous pilots. There is a San Diego Chapter of the 99s - #sd99s.org and a Palomar chapter. Robin talked about all the scholarships in aviation that they have available, see http://www.sd99s.org/scholarships.html. Follow them Palomar 99s on Facebook. A great presentation! And last but not least is our own Meinolf Ruther with a vast array of tips especially important now that many airplanes have been sitting out this Covid Crisis. He has such great tips (still like the ones about looking for birds and mice who might have settled in your aircraft somewhere) came up with the best one while talking about fuel starvation, he stated DON’T RUN OUT OF GAS- great advice! A nice evening and nice to get back together.
