Olive the cat had either taken a misstep or was testing out one of his nine lives when he fell out of a 4th floor window down onto a ledge a floor below, where he was precariously stuck. Luckily E61 was able to successfully rescue our feline friend. It’s our honor to serve the Palo Alto community with compassion and pride, humans and animals alike. #paloalto #paloaltofire #pafd #firefighter Bay Area Firefighter

As we approach this year’s 4th of July holiday, your Palo Alto Fire Department wants to remind residents that fireworks are illegal in Santa Clara County. Across the US, more than 19,500 reported fires are started by fireworks annually. Burns account for 44% of the 9,100 injuries treated in ERs seen in the month around July 4. It’s not worth it - leave it to the professionals! If you have fireworks in your possession, please drop them off at any one of our fire stations, no questions asked. #paloalto #pafd #fireworks #firesafety

The Palo Alto Fire Department is heartbroken to learn of the tragedy that took place earlier today at Los Angeles County Fire Department Station 81. We’re keeping the families, friends, and coworkers of all those affected in our thoughts and ask that you do the same.

This Memorial Day your Palo Alto Fire Department asks you to take a moment to honor the sacrifice that so many of this country’s armed services members have so bravely made. Gone but never forgotten. #memorialday #paloalto #paloaltofire

Engine 64 was flagged down earlier today by this young fire engine enthusiast. He wanted to show his appreciation with a gracious offering of chips and watermelon. Needless to say, the Engine 64 crew was happy to accept. #paloalto #paloaltofire #pafd #firefighter

Bet you didn’t know that fire engines could fly! This week, our newly post-probationary firefighters are working on their Driver 1 training, learning the inside and outside of our apparatus. The Palo Alto Fire Department, as well as the entire city of Palo Alto, is blessed to have such a talented and dedicated staff at the city’s Municipal Services Center. We can always count on them to keep our equipment operating in tip top shape, and play an important role in helping to educate new firefighters, learning about the apparatus for the first time. #paloalto #paloaltofire #pafd #firefighter

When we received this Christmas card from one of our young supporters we had no way of knowing it was foreshadowing a January strike team! Alas, your Palo Alto Fire Department’s E365 has been deployed since Tuesday, currently assigned to the #FreedomFire, one of a number of fires that began during the heavy winds. At last update, the Freedom Fire, in Santa Cruz county, had burned 37 acres and was 70% contained. #paloalto #paloaltofire #pafd #mutualaid #striketeam

You may not be able to see in this picture, but there are weary smiles under those masks. Four of our personnel have been working hard down in Bakersfield for 12 days now, as part of the state’s mutual aid request for fire departments to send paramedics to assist with the surge. These four have been giving it their all, assisting understaffed and overworked hospital staff in a number of different capacities, from initial triage to COVID isolation. Their deployment so far has ...been long and tiring, but rewarding and humbling too; they’re beyond proud to be able to represent their fire department, as well as their families and communities, as they work to augment a health care system that’s been stretched incredibly thin by the pandemic. We’re grateful for the hard work and dedication of these four, truly living up to the mission statement of the Palo Alto Fire Department, to safeguard and enrich the lives of anyone, anytime, anywhere, with compassion and pride. @nbcbayarea @ktvu2 @abc7newsbayarea @mercnews @paloaltoonline @bayareafirefighter @californiafirefighter @cal_oes #paloalto #paloaltofire #mutualaid #striketeam #covid19 See more

Showing off our shiny rigs on this sunny Saturday, here in Palo Alto. Every Saturday our personnel perform weekly maintenance on our equipment, ensuring that they’re operating well, are properly stocked, and last but certainly not least, are washed. We take pride in our equipment, and ensuring that our apparatus and personnel alike are always ready to serve the community. #paloalto #paloaltofire #fireservice #pafd #paloaltofiredepartment

The Palo Alto Fire Department is pleased to welcome seven new Cadets. These outstanding individuals are joining the department for it’s 2021 Cadet Program. The program has been modified this year to reflect and comply with current county and city guidance regarding public health safety. We appreciate the determination and dedication our personnel have shown in helping to inspire and develop future firefighters. Our 2021 Cadets were issued their gear yesterday, and are looking forward to a year of learning and hard work. #paloalto #paloaltofire #pafd #fireservice #firecadet

Today marks the first of our personnel receiving their second round of the COVID-19 vaccine. Administering the vaccine in this photo is one of our Firefighter Paramedics, who is assisting County of Santa Clara, California at their vaccination clinic. We’re grateful that our personnel, and first responders across the county and state, are able to receive this vaccine. It’s an integral part of our keeping the community that we serve safe, as well as our personnel and their families. #paloalto #paloaltofire #santaclara #santaclaracounty #publichealth

The Palo Alto Fire Department has sent four Firefighter Paramedics to Adventist Health Hospital in Bakersfield to assist the state’s mutual aid system. With COVID-19 continuing to tax our state’s health system, California Governor's Office of Emergency Services has requested assistance from CA fire departments to help augment hospital staff. This is a minimum 14 day assignment, and one that we and our personnel do not take lightly. We’re grateful for the selfless dedication of these Firefighter Paramedics and wish them luck and safety as they undertake this assignment. #paloalto #paloaltofire #mutualaid #covid19 #fireservice #ems #caloes

Once again, US National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area/Monterey California has issued a Red Flag Warning. While this particular warning doesn’t cover Palo Alto city limits, there’s no doubt that we’ll still see hot and dry conditions. Please exercise special precautions and be safe. #paloalto #redflag

Your Palo Alto Fire Department’s Engine 365 has been assigned to the #AugustComplex since October 5th. Currently 1,028,601 acres, 74% contained, spanning 7 counties, and into its 57th day of activity, the August Complex is the largest fire in California history. Our personnel continue working hard on the efforts to contain the fire, and we’re grateful for their continued success and safety. #paloalto #paloaltofire #pafd #wildfire #mutuaid #striketeam

As directed by the Fire Chief, flags at Palo Alto Fire Department stations have been lowered to half-staff, to honor the memory of San Francisco Fire Department Firefighter Paramedic Jason Cortez, who tragically succumbed to injuries sustained during a training incident yesterday. Flying the American flag at half-staff is a tradition meant to provide honorable recognition and to show respect following a line of duty death.

The Palo Alto Fire Department Honor Guard is pleased to add a new member, their first drummer, to their ranks. The Fire Service is rich with tradition and history, and Honor Guards have, for departments of all sizes, across this nation, presented the colors of our country, honored fallen firefighters at memorial and funeral services, and served as a ceremonial representation of pride and tradition. #paloalto #paloaltofire #pafd #honorguard @jhigginsltd

The generous appreciation from our community continues! Sydney, a 13-year old very talented local baker, dropped this cake off at Station 3. A young entrepreneur, Sydney is building her own baking business. We’re honored, mouths watering, to be the recipients of her hard work. #paloalto #paloaltofire #pafd
