Today’s spotlight for National Hispanic Heritage month is on Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta. Acosta began his dance training at the National School of Ballet in Cub...a and went on to become the English National Ballet’s youngest principal, at the age of 18. Throughout his career, Acosta danced for several companies which includes the National Ballet of Cuba and Houston Ballet. After seventeen years with the Royal Ballet, Acosta retired in 2015. That same year, he returned to Cuba to form Acosta Danza in order to showcase the country’s performers and culture through dance. In early 2020, Carlos Acosta was appointed director of the Birmingham Royal Ballet. Photo Credit: Johan Persson #HispanicHeritageMonth
