Meet Moracco the Frenchie! This little guy came to our #Emergency service on Friday with a few critical conditions. He herniated a disc (#SlippedDisc) in his back that caused him to lose function of his back legs and on top of that he was having difficulty breathing due to his brachycephalic airway syndrome (smooshed face dogs often have small nares and a long palate which makes it difficult for them to breath). Our ER team stabilized Moracco with oxygen therapy. Dr. John...son and the #Neurology team performed an #MRI to identify the #HerniatedDisc followed by surgery (hemilaminectomy) to relieve the pressure on the spinal cord. Dr. Luckring and the #Surgery team did surgery on Moracco’s upper airways to improve his breathing. Thanks to great #Teamwork and amazing nursing care Moracco is feeling better, breathing well, starting to use his back legs and going home to continue his recovery! Everyone at #PacVet is wishing you a speedy recovery Moracco!!!! See more
This handsome boy is Duke, and he takes his job as a duck hunting dog very seriously. So seriously in fact, that on one of hunt he luxated his ankle but still brought the duck back to his owner. Duke had a few surgeries to fix his ankle and many bandage changes. Today he is finally done with bandages. Congratulations Duke!!!!
This little, 105# baby girl is Loca. She is just hanging out with her favorite lizard toy, and patiently waiting to go home after her ER visit.
Did you know that sniffer dogs are being trained to identify people infected with the novel coronavirus?

Meet Winston, a 3 month old French bulldog puppy who ate a metal button. He started vomiting so his owners brought him to #PacVet ER service for an exam. With the help of radiographs, we were able to confirmed that the button was in his stomach! Because the button was made of metal and some buttons can contain zinc (which is toxic) an emergency endoscopy was performed (camera and small graspers inserted in the mouth) and the button was successfully retrieved from his stomach!
Jasper is feeling festive for the Holidays! He came to see us last week for limping after a little fall. Dr Dosch and the surgery team diagnosed Jasper with a ligament tear in his hock (ankle). The ligament was repaired and the limb splinted while the ligament heals. We wish you a speedy recovery Jasper!
Meet Oak - Our Parvovirus Puppy Survivor! Oak came to see our ER service for vomiting, diarrhea and a decreased appetite. We promptly diagnosed him with Parvovirus, a highly contagious and fatal virus, especially in unvaccinated puppies. Oak was hospitalized in our isolation ward with supportive care for more than 3 days!! We are happy to tell you that he has made a full recovery and is now fully vaccinated! He now enjoys hiking with his mom, and has more than doubled in size in the last 2 months. Did you know that the virus can live in the environment for months if not properly decontaminated, and is spread via feces from infected puppies. Hence why vaccination is very important!
Georgia came to see our ER service after a little fall. Her radiographs showed a hairline fracture of her right tibia (shin bone). Thankfully, the fracture is non-displaced which means Georgia won’t need to have surgery. She will however need to have her limb splinted for a few weeks while the fracture heals. She was a very brave and sweet puppy and she loves pink just like her favorite nurse, Ashley.

We are thrilled to announce that starting next week, #PacVet will have a Neurology Service. Please help us welcome Dr. Erik Johnson, DVM, DACVIM (neurology) to the team! Dr. Erik Johnson was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago and soon realized that the West was calling. After a failed attempt at professional surfing, he received his veterinary degree from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California. His education continued across the country, which incl...uded a small animal rotating internship at Colorado State University and a residency in neurology and neurosurgery at Auburn University. War Eagle! As the West was always calling him, Dr. Johnson landed in San Francisco after his veterinary training. Although he treats all neurological conditions, his specific clinical interests include feline neurology, brain and spinal surgery, and immune-mediated diseases. When Dr. Johnson is not at the hospital, he enjoys being a hack golfer, fly-fishing, exploring the US National Parks (most recently, Kenai Fjords), and vacuuming the seemingly never-ending supply of cat hair from his furniture. Dr. Johnson will be available for Neurology Consultation starting Monday, November 2nd. Call us today to schedule your appointment.
