This Black History Month, we remember the important achievements of Black dentists, hygienists and dental assistants who paved the way to where our industry is today. We also recognize that the Black community is underrepresented as a whole within the dental industry (just 3.8% of dentists are Black according to the American Dental Association). We’re committed to rewriting that narrative. The Pacific Dental Services Foundation, a charitable organization committed to improving overall health by improving oral health through opportunities to serve locally, nationally, and internationally, aims to raise funds to increase dental care for the special needs community with its first-ever Stroll for Special Needs. This virtual 5k invites participants to run, walk, stroll, or roll a 5k any time from Saturday 12/5 to Sunday 12/6. To further increase access to dental care for the special needs community, PDS plans to continue its culture of service and match donations dollar for dollar up to $80,000.

Today, Pacific Dental Services has reached its 600th supported owner dentist with Dr. Mehran Khanbabapour, D.D.S, of Scottsdale Trails Dentistry. We continue to raise the bar in our support of owner dentists as they foster a culture of Clinicians Leading Clinicians in Clinical Excellence. Welcoming our 600th supported owner dentist is an incredible achievement, said Stephen E. Thorne, IV, CEO and Founder of PDS. Our primary purpose is to support dentists so they can keep their patients healthier and happier. We’re honored that so many owner dentists have trusted us to provide support services to them and their clinical practices.

A few months ago, we had a patient who was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer come into our office. The patient's wife explained he hadn't been eating well due to a bad taste in his mouth and that his gums would hurt and bleed. The x-rays and an FM periodontal chart revealed severe periodontal disease, which was significantly impacting his quality of life. The Owner Dentist Dr. Park, DDS, recommended an appropriate treatment plan that included periodontal scaling and root p...lanning, laser therapy, and IRG. Ten weeks later, the patient's son came into our office as a new patient. He shared that Dr. Park's treatment plan allowed his father to live the best last few weeks of his life before he passed.
