Oxnard Insect Festival

Following much deliberation and with an abundance of caution, Oxnard Recreation and Community Services has decided to cancel the 2020 Oxnard Insect Festival. We are as disappointed as you likely are. After such a fun and successful first year, we were truly looking forward to bringing you an even bigger and more entertaining event this year. We'll be back in 2021 so mark your calendar now for the first Saturday in June! In the meantime, please check out our @OxnardRec page where we are posting educational, creative and just plain fun activities to do at home daily.

Interested in being a vendor at the #OxnardInsectFestival? The deadline to apply is April 2! Applications are available at www.oxnardinsectfestival.com and must be submitted with full payment. For questions, please call (805) 385-7995. The Oxnard Insect Festival will return to Plaza Park on June 6. Entrance and parking to the festival are free.

This insect may be tiny, but it's known to house the only mechanical gears found in nature! The Issus Coleoptratus consists of a propulsion system which assists when it launches into a jump. These gears closely resemble man-made ones, such as the ones on a bicycle. Get to know more about other insects on June 6! The #OxnardInsectFestival will return to Plaza Park. Are you familiar with the Glowworm Beetle? It's the critter in our profile picture, which belongs to the beetle family of Phengodidae. The female glowworms possess a similar characteristic to fireflies, the ability to produce light through bio-luminescence. The light in their abdomen can flash or remain as a constant glow. Get ready to experience the world of insects with us on June 6 at Plaza Park. Remember, parking and admission to the #OxnardInsectFestival are free.
