Dear District 5 Supervisor @supervisorkathrynbarger , While we have appreciated all of the things you and your colleagues have done for the sake of Los Angeles County residents during this pandemic, we want to reach out to you for help. Our small and independently-owned businesses are on the verge of closures due to the change in the June county health order which explicitly prohibited us from the ability to partner with third-party food vendors in order to provide me...als for outdoor dining at our brewery tap rooms. Some of our peers who are brewpubs with full kitchens and outdoor space have had the privilege of being classified in the same way as other restaurants, but two-thirds of the Los Angeles County Brewers Guild are unfortunately not as lucky. We are begging for the Board of Supervisors to reconsider a reclassification of our businesses to at the very least, align with the State of California’s health order. Los Angeles is the ONLY county in the entire state not allowing us to partner with food trucks and catering vendors. Our food partners are also suffering during this time as large summer events they rely on are also off the calendar. Furthermore, not allowing the approximately 70 brewery tap rooms to operate in this way is not deterring patrons from participating in this behavior. Many are merely driving to breweries in neighboring counties to get a small dose of craft beer community. All of our businesses have followed the guidelines set forth by the county, state, and CDC, and we are absolutely willing to adhere to additional requirements if that means we can collaborate with the county on best practices to mitigate the virus. The state ABC has even allowed us to file for extensions to our licensed premises to expand our outdoor social distancing, yet we are sitting on our hands unable to utilize the lifelines that the CDPH and ABC have given to businesses in other counties outside of L.A. We implore you to please reconsider. Respectfully, @overtownbrewing . #SaveLABrewers #LABEER #independentbeer #smallbiz #lacounty See more

It’s been over 5 months since the pandemic brought on safe-at-home orders and multi-industry closures. In that time, our breweries have had to drop everything and pivot into exclusively to-go businesses. We were briefly allowed to reopen for limited on-site consumption in June so long as we partnered with a food vendor to provide a meal with purchase, but those days didn’t last very long before a new order rolled us back. However, instead of putting us back in the limited spa...ce we had pivoted to, the Los Angeles County BOS created more prohibitive language in their health order than that of the California Department of Public Health. What did that mean for @labrewers? It meant that if you weren’t a brewpub with a full kitchen, basically two-thirds of our membership, then you were out of luck. At this point though, we’re the ONLY county in the entire state with these regulations. So instead of us all being in this together, our businesses are suffering further as our customers drive the short distances out of our county to enjoy neighboring establishments. All of the extra effort put into legally expanding our outdoor spaces with the state beverage control, investing into training our staff on all the relevant health guidelines, and figuring our systems to work food truck and vendor purchases in-house through various meal voucher and redemption systems...all of that work has been put back at a standstill. We’ve all asked the L.A. County BOS to reconsider this decision. We’ve had a coalition of over 28 organizations including local chambers and mayors to write letters on our behalf. To this date, we still have no relief. Our industry’s left in the dark and all we’re asking for is a fair chance to operate the way all other breweries in CA are. Having the ability to reopen outdoors with food vendors won’t immediately save us, but it’s a life-preserver that can keep us afloat until we can get through this crisis. Our Board of Supervisors need to #SaveLABrewers! #beerstagram #beerla #hoppedla #beerme #beer #savelabrewers #chellas See more
