Not everyone can afford to buy upgrades - Ride Up Grades believes hard work and commitment should be rewarded. Ride Up Grades seeks to bridge both the transportation and health divide in low-income communities through cycling. They break down the barriers to entry for teenagers and families to start commuting by bike and participating in the sport of road cycling. Ride Up Grades Founder Aliya Barnwell, has a true passion for road cycling and bringing that freedom and joy to... youth. Let's help Outride Fund awardee Ride Up Grades reach their matching grant goal of raising 15,000! Visit the link in our profile to support them today!

When Mike Milliman applied for a Riding for Focus grant two years ago, he was surprised to learn that only 12% of Highland Middle School students knew how to ride a bike. So, he began sharing cycling tutorials during his virtual PE classes to improve students’ understanding of basic skills and increase their comfort levels. Now, with their Spring 2020 Outride grant, HMS students are learning about cycling with Riding for Focus. And a big shoutout to Bicycle Depot in New Pal...tz for lending a hand at a crucial time! Champion Mike contact contacted owner Mike Neuman when the bikes were delivered and he offered to put all 36 bikes together - free of charge. Wow! Thanks, @bicycledepot , for supporting #morekidsonbikes! Read on at the Outride Newsblog! #ridingforfocus #whatwillyououtride #moregirlsonbikes #morediversityonbikes See more

Last fall, Outride awarded Laramie Middle School the Riding for Focus grant. Cynthia Hartung, a professor in the University of Wyoming, Department of Psychology, helped PE teacher Jamie Simmons write the initial grant. With additional funding from Outride, Hartung plans to study how high-intensity interval training on a bike, also known as HIIT, can impact executive functioning in middle school students. Executive functions include things like memory, attention, self-control ...and flexible thinking. Those with ADHD struggle in these areas. Hartung is already conducting similar research on college students in her UW lab. The bikes are getting heavy use this fall between daily PE classes and during a new after school bike club. The club has attracted students who don’t participate in the school’s traditional sports offerings and perhaps don’t feel like they fit in at school. "It's really cool to see them light up and feel like they're part of the team and have something to do after school." -Evan Townsend, Social Studies teacher and after school cycling club leader. With another SIP order, this weekend's ride wasn't all that we planned for - *but* HUGE THANKS to all who were able to safely get outside and outride, especially organizer Outride Ambassador @mattaccarrino . In these challenging times, it's especially important to take care of one's mental, emotional, and physical well-being. We are grateful to those who have supported this fundraiser - we have already raised over $1,100 for local youth cycling programs and the @_todd_s...hoberg Memorial Fund. You can purchase tickets for the drawing at the link in our profile to win prizes from @velocioapparel , @spqrsf , @mikes_bikes , @roam_burgers , and @pointreyescheese until 12/31! #whatwillyououtride #getoutsideandoutride See more
