Jury Rules Petco Not Liable in Boy's Death From ‘Rat-Bite Fever’ Petco has been found not liable in the death of a young boy from a rat bite. The boy's family filed suit against the pet store chain after the child died after being bitten by a diseased rat. The pet was purchased from Petco and the lawsuit alleged that the store sold the family a sick rat. After a two week trial and one day of jury deliberation, the court found that Petco did do enough to warn customers about the dangers of owning a pet rat. Debbie L. $9.5 million for family of man killed in Atherton crosswalk A San Mateo County Superior Court jury has awarded a total of $9.5 million to the wife and three daughters of a 62-year-old man who was killed while crossing El Camino Real in Atherton. Tbe jury found Caltrans 90 percent responsible for Chris Chandler's death, with the driver who struck him 10 percent liable. CAOC members Mike Danko and Clair Choo, who represent the family, argued that Caltrans knew that marked crosswalks without stoplights such as the one where Chandler was killed are actually more dangerous for pedestrians than unmarked crosswalks, yet the agency did nothing to improve the conditions.
