"Born Again" 5-30-2021 Pastor Dave Weber Message Today is Trinity Sunday. Martin Luther once said to deny the Trinity is to jeopardize your salvation. To try to explain the Trinity is to jeopardize your sanity. Our text today has Nicodemus coming to Jesus for a theological discussion. Jesus answers him by saying unless a man is born from above he can not enter the Kingdom of God. Flesh gives birth to flesh but Spirit gives birth to Spirit. ... Join us as we unpack the wonderful gift the Father gives us of new birth by the Spirit through the completed work of Jesus Christ. church website: https://orlcsd.org/ giving opportunity: https://orlcsd.org/giving John 3:1-17 New International Version Jesus Teaches Nicodemus 3 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him. 3 Jesus replied, Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.[a] 4 How can someone be born when they are old? Nicodemus asked. Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born! 5 Jesus answered, Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit. 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You[c] must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.[d] 9 How can this be? Nicodemus asked. 10 You are Israel’s teacher, said Jesus, and do you not understand these things? 11 Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaventhe Son of Man.[e] 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,[f] 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.[g] 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. "Each One Reach One." Dave Weber 1-16-2021." Picture this, back in the days when we could meet together safely in restaurants, you and some friends and family go out to eat at a place that is new to you. The service, food, and atmosphere are top-notch. You look around and see there are hardly any people there. Someone says, we have to tell people about this great place so it doesn’t go out of business. How hard is that to do? Most of us could easily tell a friend about a... great dining experience. Why is it so hard for us to share our experience with Jesus with our families and friends? What is more critical to you and them, a meal or eternity? Join me as together we examine the account of Jesus calling His first disciples. We see a simple pattern of inviting people to experience what they have already experienced. It is the most loving and kind thing you can ever do for anybody. If you know Jesus, share Him with someone e you know. Each one, reach one! Text John 1:35-48

"Baptism" Dave Weber 1-9-2021 Message Today we look at the account in the Gospel of Mark of Jesus being baptized in the Jordon River. As Jesus is coming out of the water the heavens are ripped open, the Holy Spirit descends into Jesus as a dove and the Father speaks from Heaven saying, This is my Son, whom I love, with Him I am well pleased! All three persons of the Trinity are present. I said the Heavens were torn open because the Greek in this text should be translated t...hat way. It is not merely opened so that it may be closed again, but is ripped asunder to forever be open to all of God’s children. John the Baptizer was performing a water baptism for the forgiveness of sins. In Jesus' baptism, the Holy Spirit along with the Word of God is added to the formula. That has developed into today’s Christian baptism. Baptism is a means of grace in which God does all the work in creating faith. No matter how young or old, the individual receives the faith creating Holy Spirit through the water and God’s Word by the grace of God. In our baptism, we have received the Holy Spirit to create faith in us. We have the power of The Holy Spirit to live as the Children of God. Join me as we look at the baptism of Jesus and consider our own baptisms as well! Text. Mark 1:4-11 church website: https://orlcsd.org/ giving opportunity: https://orlcsd.org/giving

"Saved by grace through faith." Dave Weber 10-24-2020 message October 31, 1517, is when Martin Luther nailed 95 theses, or points to debate, on the door of the church he was serving. The main point was to debate where our salvation comes from. Is it from works? Can it be purchased by buying indulgences? Luther didn’t think so. He believed salvation was won for us through the innocent suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. But how are we justified before God? How d...o we get right with God? Luther struggled with that. He saw God as perfect and himself as a wretched sinner. He was right. But how does a wretched sinner approach a perfect Holy God? Luther was reading through the book of Romans when he came across this passage in chapter 1:17, the just will live by faith. He said it was as if the heavens had open wide and taken away his burden of sin. He understood the righteousness a believer brings before God is not his own, but the righteousness of Jesus Christ given to him through faith! Join me today as we rediscover the joy of the Gospel rediscovered in the reformation and apply it to our lives today. "Created in the Image and Likeness of God!" Dave Weber 10-17-2020 message In today’s Gospel reading Jesus says the famous words "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and give to God what is God’s." The Herodians and disciples of the Pharisees tried to trap Jesus with a question about if it was lawful to pay tax to Rome. ... Once again. They thought they had placed Jesus in a spot where no matter what He said would land Him in trouble. If He said don’t pay the tax then He would be in trouble with Rome. If He said to pay the tax he would be in hot water with the Jews who resented paying Rome to occupy them. Jesus asked for a coin of the type used to pay the tax. Jesus asked whose image is on the coin? Caesar's they replied. Jesus said give to Caesar what is his and to God what is God’s. If the coin had Caesar’s image on it, what or who has God’s image? We do. Join me today as we look at what it means to be created in the image and likeness of God!
