The prompt for Week 3 of the #worldtoursewalong was to share a bit about ourselves, and I am sharing at the bottom of this message. Selfies are encouraged but not mandatory and I took one to show off my new silver hair and share how much I LOVE it! I love the feeling of freedom and empowerment this simple act of ditching the dye has brought to me. Showing myself just as I am, no dye, no filter. It is exhilarating to be free of society bias and prejudices. The sponsor ...for week 3 of the sew-along is my dear friend Rana @sewnwyoming and she is offering an adorable kit of eight bunny draw string bags in cheerful polka dots fabrics. Pattern and all the materials are included in the kit. Swipe to see the prize and follow @sewnwyoming for a chance to win it. That is beside making Block B for the sew-along and telling us a bit about yourself. Swipe to see my Block B and I cannot wait to see your creations. Please post by the end of the day on Sunday, March 7. About me, my name is Dora Cary and I am Orange Dot Quilts. I wear all the hats for this business and love it, even if it is exhausting at times. A Romanian by birth, I am also an American since 2008, and I recently found I am also a quarter Greek by DNA. Quilting came into my life in 2006 and by 2016 became my living. As an engineer, the math part of quilting is very appealing to me and most of my patterns are very logical, easy to make, and highly geometric. Other than quilting I also love books, traveling, dogs (and cats), dessert (I never skip dessert), and making things. I am super tall, love to play chess, and I speak fluently a few languages. Thank you for joining me on this sew-along! I cannot wait to see your World Tour blocks and get to know you a bit more. #worldtoursewalong #orangedotquilts #sewnwyoming #worldtourquilt

Happy March 1st! Martie Fericit! Today is a big day in Romania, my native country because of a beautiful old tradition of giving a red and white thread, called Martisor (Little March) to women and girls as a symbol of the upcoming spring and also to show care for their well being. It is believed that those who wear this little bicolor thread for the month of March will have health and strength all year long. ... #romanian #romaniantradition #martisor #mrior

I took a break on Saturday to put together this new Only One quilt made out of four Humming Along panels by Nancy Mink for Wilmington Prints. Check out the panel before it was transformed, so pretty. I will use it on the back of my quilt to create a two sided beauty. The quilt is 46" x 51". Kits with five panels of this pretty fabric and the Only One pattern are available in my Etsy shop (link through the Shop Now button at the top of the page). The Only One pattern is available at your local quilt shop, in my online store and Etsy store (link in profile, through my website), from your favorite distributor in the USA and from Erie Quilt Art in Canada.

Hello, everyone! It's been a month since I released my Simple Mask pattern, available for free on my website (link in profile). After more than 3,000 downloads and numerous questions and comments, I decided to answer the most frequently asked questions here. 1. My name is Dora Cary but I am everything that is Orange Dot Quilts. So, when you write to Orange Dot Quilts, I will be the one (and only) answering your questions. 2. There are video tutorials available for the Simpl...e Mask pattern in the highlights on my IG account, on my Facebook page and, soon, on the newly created Orange Dot Quilts You Tube channel. Because there is a need for these masks, I finally got over my dread of hearing my accent on video and I am rolling with it. 3. I created the mask at the request of Gary Goodman, MD, the medical director of the ICU department of the Children's Hospital in Mission Viejo. Since then, my Simple Mask design has received wide spread approval from medical professionals and others. 4. The pattern is free but I appreciate and understand wanting to donate something to me, especially if you make a profit from it. You can Venmo me (@Dora-Cary) or patronize my online shops (link in profile). For a month, I made masks and organized mask pick ups and dropped off mask donations to California hospitals, in my area and beyond, because it helped me feel useful and it helped me cope with the crippling anxiety connected with this new Corona virus. I wanted to do whatever I could to keep our nurses and doctors protected, so they can protect us in turn. Since then, I realized that fear and worry will not protect anyone from harm but it will rob us of the joy of living and of enjoying each moment we have now. But these masks helped me help others and not think too much about worse case scenarios. I am now taking each day at a time and making the best of each moment. What is your secret in dealing with anxiety during this quarantine?

Happy Easter! I painted the eggs with onion skins and I also painted two huge cardboard eggs, inspired by the traditional Romanian Easter egg painting style (done with wax and three colors: yellow, red and brown), for the virtual egg hunt. The cardboard eggs will be displayed in Heritage Ranch and Paso Robles. Happy egg hunting, too!
