Legs Up & CHILL When you train, your nervous system gets excitedWe want that! It helps with increased performance and energy during your workout! The fight or flight part of your nervous system gets activated, aka the sympathetic nervous system. Again, this is a good thing while you’re lifting, but you want to come back down out of that state post training as soon as you can. It’s important to activate your rest and digest part of your nervous system, aka the ...parasympathetic nervous system, before you walk out of the gym. This will allow you to kickstart the recovery process post workout, which will allow your body to get back to fat burning and muscle building quicker Enter, Legs Up & CHILL We have our members spend 3-5 minutes post workout in this recovery breathing position. Here are some tips on how to do it correctly 1 Maintain about a 90 degree angle in your hips and knees, calves resting on a bench, plyo box, couch, etc. 2Relax your ankles. 3Lower back should be neutral (no arching). 4 Keep your arms by your side, with palms facing up. 5Close your eyes, and melt into the ground. 6Put on some relaxing tunes , or be in complete silence. 7Focus on your breathaim for about a 6 count on your inhale, about a 2 count hold at the top of the breath, and about an 8 count on your exhale. Don’t overdo it on the counting, though! Remember, you want to relax Just focus on extending each breath a little bit longer. 8Focus on your belly expanding on the inhale, and dropping on the exhale. Your chest rising and falling is secondary. If you have a hard time with this, put a phone or extremely light weight on your tummy, and focus on breathing into it. 9Do a full body scan from the crown of your head, all the way down to your toes. Be aware of any tension you may be feeling, and focusing on relaxing each part as you make your way down. Do a minimum of 3-5 minutes post training session.
