Optometry by the Bay 06.07.2021

We’re open for beeswax. . . business! With a lot of safety restrictions of course. Masks required, social distancing, hand washing, bring the doctor salty/crunchy snacks etc, etc. Everything is by appointment only - from eye exams to frame selections to dispensing eyewear to bringing the doctor a grande extra-hot cafe mocha with light whip etc, etc. Be safe! We’ll get through this together!

We are currently closed during this COVID-19 shelter-in-place directive. We hope you are safe, healthy, and in good spirits. Since we still receive emails and VM messages remotely, here is a list of our most FAQs: Q: If I have an upcoming appointment, will it be automatically canceled? A: So far, we have canceled any appointments (and pre-appointments) through April 7, 2020 - the original date ordered by Governor Newsom. Today (Sunday 3/29/2020) the numbers of infection...s and deaths are on the rise and "the worst is yet to come", so this date is flexible and will surely be moved forward by weeks, months(?). ______ Q: If I have glasses on order, will I be able to pick them up? A: I'm sorry, but NO . . . . We'll dispense your glasses when we reopen. If it's an emergency, please call us. We may be able to coordinate a contactless pick-up. ______ Q: I'm running out of contact lenses. Can I reorder them, and can I use my insurance coverage? A: Yes, you can. With an order of at least 2 boxes, you may qualify for free shipping to your home. We can check with your vision plan for coverage to lower your out-of-pocket expenses. ______ Q: Should I wear contact lenses during this time of rapid COVID-19 spread? A: Probably best NOT to. Although there are no hard studies that people wearing contact lenses have tested positive for COVID-19 at a higher rate, common sense tells us that avoiding contact lens wear right now is one way we can help keep ourselves and our loved ones safe. There are a few patients who wear contacts because they are 'medically necessary'; but for most of us, now may be the best time to wear those amazing glasses. ______ Q: If I have an urgent eye concern or matter, can you help me remotely? Can I send you a pic of my son's red-eye? A: Yes. With your request, we may have telehealth or remote consultations via FT, text or phone. We may be able to bill your vision or medical plan for such. This is probably going to be more commonplace as we emerge from this crisis. (Photo credit to fda.gov)

RIP Kate Spade. Your ophthalmic and sun line is a time-tested true best seller in our practice. We were at a loss for words when we heard the news today.
