VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED to assist the County of Solano with its upcoming biennial Point in Time (PIT) count in January! If you are willing and able to help count unsheltered and/or sheltered individuals, let us know by signing up at https://solano.pointintime.info/. The 2021 PIT count will be held on January 25 & 30, 2021. Volunteer Training will be held at 6pm on January 11, 2021 and at 10am on January 14, 2021. ... A PIT Count is required in order for Solano County to receive homeless assistance funding from the US Department of Urban Housing and Development (HUD). It is never easy to see a person trying to survive on the street. Our reactions can range from pity, concern, anger, or choosing to not see this person at all. It is natural to feel helpless or uncomfortable when interacting with those that are less fortunate than us. If you are unsure of how to react, the best place to start is to acknowledge that homelessness is not always a choice. We advise practicing empathy while remembering humanity and treating all community members with dignity and respect while following your instincts. Your simple act of kindness - even just a smile - can positively impact another person's life.
