National Dispatcher Appreciation Week 2021. Across the nation, 911 dispatchers have a time to be honored and celebrated. For those who may not know, in 1994, United States Congress designated the second full week in April as a time to honor all 911 dispatchers. What we have here in Ontario Fire with our dispatch team is the best of the best. Many people do not stop to think about these seemingly nameless, faceless individuals until they experience an actual emergency themsel...ves, but these unsung heroes, these professionals, these first first responders absolutely make the difference between life and death in many instances. Ontario Fire is blessed to have 15 professionals that provide first-class service to the community. Their commitment to excellence is backed up by our dispatch center, meeting the stringent requirements to be an officially Accredited Center of Excellence in Emergency Medical Dispatch by the prestigious International Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch, an accreditation that less than 3% of dispatch centers across the nation hold. Sending our deepest condolences to our brothers and sisters at the US Forest Service following the loss of a Firefighter on the El Dorado Fire near Yucaipa, CA.

OES 342 remains committed to the El Dorado Fire as part of Strike Team 6820A, along with engines from San Bernardino County, Barstow, and Apple Valley Fire Departments. Through a cooperative agreement with California Office of Emergency Services, these resources are staffed and deployed during times of high fire activity. All Ontario fire stations and apparatus remain fully staffed and ready to serve. #teamwork #oneteamonefight

Today we bid Marie Gonzales a fond farewell as she moves into retirement. After 11 years with the Ontario Fire Department and 19 total with the City of Ontario, Marie is leaving to enjoy her travels full-time. She has been a vital part of our team and she will be missed. Today we had the pleasure of accepting a donation of 2000 cloth masks from the Louis Vuitton company. Rosie Hernandez presented the masks to us and our partners at Ontario Police Department. Thank you so much for your generosity! We are honored to serve the community.

Medic Engine 138 and 137 respond to a #vehiclefire involving energized power lines. #socaledison responded to assist with shutting down the power. One patient transported to local trauma center. Never approach down wires and treat all power lines as energized and extremely dangerous, especially if they are on the ground.

Training occurs on a daily basis in the fire service, sometimes even when off duty. This training session was preparing individuals for the upcoming promotional Captains test. There are multiple portions of the test, one of which being the fire simulator. We prepare our candidates for real events by using computer-generated fires, allowing them to command the incident and organize the fire attack. #captaintest #firetraining @ Ontario, California

Deputy Chief Art Andres completed his final shift with the Ontario Fire Department yesterday, after proudly serving the citizens of Ontario for the past 24 years. Chief Andres served as a Firefighter, Captain, EMS Coordinator, Battalion Chief and Deputy Chief. Congratulations on retirement!! #retirement

Such a kind gesture offered to our crew while they are away from home. The Watson family paid for dinner for the crew of ME134 during a rest period from fighting the SCU Lightning Complex Fire. It’s our privilege to assist in the fight against these historic fires. Thank you Watsons!
