We were supposed to share this during I Love Poke San Diego 2018, but it was not the right time. Instead we opted to share some simple words about this man that we love so much. In this video you will see Sumo Sato walking around I Love Poke SD back in 2017, doing what he does best (eat food and make people smile). During the very beginning of the event, he pulled me @Nino Neens Camilo aside and said with tears in his eyes, "This might be my last I Love Poke". Sumo battle...d colon cancer for two years and he did not make it to I Love Poke SD 2018. It's still an unreal thought to know that we will never hear his big Hawaiian voice again unless we play video of him. During this last event I missed his presence on stage with me greatly. It's like half of me (okay maybe 3/4 of me) was not there. We know Ono Yum will not be the same without our Sumo, but we do know that Sumo wants us to continue this tradition of sharing our love for Hawaii and it's culture through food & music. Sumo left us so much to laugh about, so many recipes to cook from and many examples of how to be a child of God in the realest way possible. Last, Sumo would want to use this vehicle to remind you to get your check ups, especially if you are 40+ years of age. Don't wait. The ones that you love the most, love them more today. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. And when you miss Sumo, cook something he taught you how to cook and share it with others, or think of the time he made fun of you, which was his way of loving you.
