Our We Are Open Resource Group honors Marsha P. Johnson in celebration of Women’s History Month. Marsha was, amongst many things, a Black trans woman, activist, and performer who became a prominent figure in the LGBTQ+ community. Her work lives on through her legacy of activism and advocacy. --In 1969 at the Stonewall Inn in NYC, Marsha was among the lead protestors pushing back against NYPD harassment and violence towards patrons at the historic bar. --She joined the Gay L...iberation Front and served as a vanguard member who organized and marched in what is considered the first Gay Pride rally in the US. --Marsha co-founded the Street Tranvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR), one of the earliest organizations providing shelter and services to homeless LGBTQ+ youth in NYC --Her legacy lives on through the Marsha P. Johnson Institute, founded and led by Black trans people to create a space intended for the sole purpose of bettering the Black trans community across the diaspora. --You can learn more about Marsha’s amazing life and story by watching Happy Birthday Marsha, a film directed and produced by Tourmaline Wortzel, a Black trans creative and advocate. http://ow.ly/jGSK50E6Lqc See more
