The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts is a world class theater and arts center located just one block from One Hawthorne, and lucky for us, it is scheduling some really innovative productions and installations this coming month! Clas/sick Hip Hop What happens when you pair an up-and-coming composer/virtuoso violinist with five hip-hop dance acts on the same stage? We call it Clas/sick Hip Hopa two-night mini-festival featuring legendary hip hop pioneer Rennie Harris and a cast... of trail-blazing b-boys and b-girls. Described as a mashup of music and movement, this is a show you won’t want to miss! Showing FriSat, Nov 30Dec 1. Nayland Blake: FREE!LOVE!TOOL!BOX! A pioneer of performance art in the Bay Area in the 1980s, Blake creates spontaneous sculptures using his life as the catalyst. Nayland Blake asks all who attend to bring an article of clothing to donate to the exhibition which will be incorporated by Blake into artworks that will become part of the exhibition. Showing until January 27. The Parade: Nathalie Djurberg with Music by Hans Berg Swedish-born artist Nathalie Djurberg’s presents an avian menagerie containing more than eighty freestanding bird sculptures on view. The exhibition also includes five animated films, in which avian psychology is superimposed upon human behavior with extraordinary results. Showing through Jan 27, 2013 Gallery hours are Thursday Saturday from 12 noon to 8pm, and Sundays from 12 noon to 6pm. Oh and the first Tuesday of every month is FREE!
