Down from Down-Under: Coach Neville Down of Melbourne, Australia, dropped in to OnTrack for a quick shopping spree on the last leg of his tour to the West Coast. Coach Down and Ron got a chance to speed visit just hours before "wheels up" for the Aussie coach's return trip home with throwing balls and stopwatches.

Frankly, we are all still in shock. The Sunday before last, as about half of our OnTrack family were enroute to a wedding, we received the stunning news in a phone call from our own Dan West. The message reported that the night before, 2-time Olympic discus thrower, and our 2012 featured OnTrack cover athlete, Jarred Rome had passed away, gone at the age of 42. Only a few months before, three of our staff had spent time with Jarred at Iron Wood, the premier throws camp he dir...ected out of North Idaho College. He was a man of incredible will and focus. He was large and in charge! We were excited to learn later in August that he had been named to a full-time assistant coaching position, specializing in the throws, at Boston University. We wish to express our deep condolences to those who were closest to Jarred -- his family, his friends and his athletes. We know he will be dearly missed by those who knew him, as well as those who could have known him, had he lived out the long, impactful coaching career we had envisioned for him. Here is a look at Jarred Rome, courtesy of nationalscholastic... https://www.youtube.com/watch

Today, we mourn the loss of Hans "Hasse" Ture Lennart Lagerqvist, a true disciple of the pole vault. Hasse was instrumental in encouraging the adoption of the fiberglass pole across Europe during the event's transition out of the steel pole era. Coming off his 1972 silver medal-winning 5.40m personal best performance at the European Athletics Indoor Championships, Hasse represented his homeland of Sweden at the Olympic Games in Munich later that summer. Following his career ...as an elite pole vaulter, Hasse continued to compete at a high level in the World Masters arena, setting a number of age group records: M35 (1975), M50 (1990) and M55 (1996). Hasse wrote numerous articles and papers regarding pole vault fundamentals, and was in continuous service to the event he loved so much. On a personal note, the OnTrack family will greatly miss our wonderful friend. Vault on, Hasse!!
