We are building a museum and cultural center to celebrate Sierra Nevada history and recognize local snow sports legends. The SNOW museum will provide a place where both residents and visitors can gather and experience the pioneering spirit that built this magical place.
We are building a cultural center and museum to preserve the Olympic and winter sports history of the Squaw Valley and Lake Tahoe. Our mission is to establish an institution where the evolution of winter sports in the area and the Olympic Winter Games 1960 can be researched, studied, and displayed in an architecturally inspiring building. Please consider a donation. #givebacktahoe

On this day in 1960, the USA Hockey team won it's first gold medal, still the only American team to go unblemished at the Olympic games. Happy anniversary fellas! USA Hockey

Olympic Countdown Press Release from Word After Word Bookshop Just in time for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in South Korea, Word After Word Books hosts an illustrated presentation of the 1960 Olympics by local author David Antonucci. In 1960 the eyes of the world focused on Squaw Valley and the Lake Tahoe region as the Winter Olympics were held here. Athletes from a world locked in the Cold War came to compete and share the spirit of the Olympic movement. Mr. Antonucci’s pre...sentation is based upon his award-winning book Snowball’s Chance: The Story of the 1960 Olympic Winter Games and covers the events leading up to Squaw Valley hosting the VIII Olympic Winter Games, the role that Walt Disney played in the pageantry of the opening and closing ceremonies, the first Miracle on Ice hockey gold medal match, and much more. Mr. Antonucci’s presentation will be held at Word After Word Bookshop, 10118 Donner Pass Road, Truckee on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, starting at 6 PM. Light snacks and beverages will be served. The event is FREE.
The actual building looked much different and now serves as the ski rental building at the Squaw Valley base. Hard drive was a whole 5 MB and required a moving crew and dolleys to deliver it.

Help support a Winter Olympics and Ski History Museum for North Lake Tahoe We ask for your support for a new ski history and Winter Olympics museum proposed for Squaw Valley Park. We are not asking for money, just your support as a person interested in preservation of skiing and Olympic history. The proposed museum will display artifact collections from Sierra ski history and the 1960 Winter Olympics. In addition, the museum will house a Hall of Fame honoring our winter sport...s athletes and industry pioneers. You can learn more here http://olympicskimuseum.org/ A group of mostly museum opponents working under the Park Subcommittee of the Squaw Valley Municipal Advisory Council is conducting an online survey on park planning. Their focus is on Squaw Valley residents and are doing very little if anything to involve others who have an interest in the park or the creation of an Olympic museum. You can bring balance to the survey by completing the online survey form. It should only take about five minutes of your time. For the museum to be considered, it must be ranked #1 - #5 on the priority list. You can complete the survey by clicking on this link and respond anonymously if you like. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SquawValleyParkFuture The Squaw Valley Ski Museum Foundation, thanks you for your time and support.
Check out this and other Sierra ski history and 1960 Winter Olmpics photos and artifacts in our new location at Gatekeeper Cabin Museum in Tahoe City.
