Let’s take the Church into our hearts today by praying for one another- even those who are very different from us. May we all pursue unity in our diversity! Novena to the Holy Spirit. Day Six If Thou take Thy grace away,... Nothing pure in man will stay, All his good is turned to ill. The Gift of Understanding Understanding, as a gift of the Holy Ghost, helps us to grasp the meaning of the truths of our holy religion. By faith we know them, but by Understanding we learn to appreciate and relish them. It enables us to penetrate the inner meaning of revealed truths, and through them to be quickened to newness of life. Our faith ceases to be sterile and inactive but inspires a mode of life that bears eloquent testimony to the faith that is in us; we begin to walk worthy of God, in all things pleasing, and increasing in the knowledge of God. Prayer Come, O Spirit of Understanding, and enlighten our minds, that we may know and believe all the mysteries of salvation; and may merit at last to see the eternal light in Thy Light; and in the light of glory, to have a clear vision of Thee and the Father and the Son. The Gift of Knowledge The gift of Knowledge enables the soul to evaluate created things at their true worth ~ in their relation to God. Knowledge unmasks the pretense of creatures, reveals their emptiness, and points out their only true purpose as instruments in the service of God. It shows us the loving care of God even in adversity and directs us to glorify Him in every circumstance of life. Guided by its light, we put first things first and prize the friendship of God beyond all else. Knowledge is a fountain of life to him that possesseth it. Prayer Come, O Blessed Spirit of Knowledge, and grant that I may perceive the will of the Father; show me the nothingness of earthly things, that I may realize their vanity and use them only for Thy glory and my own salvation, looking ever beyond them to Thee and Thy eternal rewards. At Mass next Sunday, at the time of the Sign of Peace, make sure that you really are at peace with those around you. ST. LEONARD OF NOBLAC St. Leonard of Noblac (d. 559 A.D.) also known as St. Leonard of Limoges, was a French nobleman in the court of Clovis I, King of France. He was converted to the Christian faith, along with the King, by St. Remigius, Bishop of Rheims. After his conversion he abandoned his worldly pursuits, left the royal court, and followed St. Remigius as a disciple. He obtained special permission from the king to release any prisoners whom he deemed worthy of pardon. H...e declined an offer of a bishopric and entered the monastery at Orleans to live a life of prayer and penance. Desiring greater solitude and penance than what the monastery allowed, he withdrew into a forest to live as a hermit. He built a small cell and lived on herbs and fruits. He soon attracted followers who joined him in his ascetic life. In thanksgiving for his prayers that the Queen of France would safely deliver her child, St. Leonard was given a large tract of royal land in Noblac. There the saint built an abbey where he served as abbot until his death. A village grew around the abbey that still exists today, named Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat. Numerous shrines are dedicated to St. Leonard across Europe, and thousands of miracles are credited to his intercession. He is the patron saint of prisoners and women in labor. His feast day is November 6th. S T. LEONARDO DE NOBLAC San Leonard de Noblac (m. 559 d.C.), también conocido como San Leonard de Limoges, fue un noble francés en la corte de Clovis I, rey de Francia. Fue convertido a la fe cristiana, junto con el Rey, por San Remigio, obispo de Reims. Su fiesta es el 6 de noviembre.

ST. ELIZABETH OF THE VISITATION St. Elizabeth of the Visitation (1st c.) was the wife of Zachary, a temple priest, and the cousin and close companion of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She is the one whom Our Lady visited in haste after the Annunciation. The Angel Gabriel had told Mary that Elizabeth was expecting a miraculous child in her old age. Upon hearing Mary's voice, who was then carrying the Son of God in her womb, Elizabeth's unborn child leaped in her womb by the power of... the Holy Spirit. It was with Elizabeth that Mary first shared the joy of the Incarnation of Jesus Christ. St. Elizabeth gave birth to St. John the Baptist, the prophet who prepared the way for Jesus' ministry. St. Elizabeth is described in the Gospel of Luke as righteous in the eyes of God, observing all the commandments of the Lord blamelessly. St. Elizabeth shares a feast day with her husband, Zachary, on November 5th. S T. ELIZABETH DE LA VISITACIÓN Santa Isabel de la Visitación (siglo I) era la esposa de Zacarías, sacerdote del templo, prima y compañera cercana de la Santísima Virgen María. Ella es a quien Nuestra Señora visitó apresuradamente después de la Anunciación. El ángel Gabriel le había dicho a María que Isabel estaba esperando un hijo milagroso en su vejez. Al escuchar la voz de María, que en ese momento llevaba al Hijo de Dios en su vientre, el feto de Isabel saltó en su vientre por el poder del Espíritu Santo. Fue con Isabel con quien María compartió por primera vez la alegría de la Encarnación de Jesucristo.
