Victorville Old Towne Route 66 Historic Society 12.11.2020

Be sure to save the date Wed. Jan 29, 2020, to step back in time and re-live the "Good Ol' Days" at the Historic Apple Valley Inn. The Apple Valley Legacy Museum volunteers, in conjunction with the Apple Valley Inn staff, will host the event in the main lobby from 2-5:00 P.M.Come enjoy historic displays, re-enactments, a raffle of historic items, and a silent auction of one-of-a-kind collectibles. Books, vintage maps, authentic AV Inn 8-, 12,-, and 16-page newspaper inserts f...rom the 1940s, 50's, and 60's era, as well as Roy Rogers and Dale Evans posters, buttons, and other memorabilia, will also be available to purchase. At 5:00 the party will move to the dining area so guests can purchase a delicious dinner ($10 charge) while enjoying musical entertainment, "Old Timers" stories, and a special presentation on Apple Valley's own Triple fighter ace Capt. Joseph McConnell, who remains the all-time number one jet ace in American history. Don Holland will share the unbelievable story of McConnell's exploits, so appreciated by Apple Valley residents that they built the "Appreciation House" in his honor. "The McConnell Story" was released by Warner Brothers in 1955, with its first showing in Victorville. You won't want to miss this presentation, which will include authentic Korean War displays, a powerpoint, and movie clips. Advance tickets are on sale at the Apple Valley Legacy Museum, open Mon. through Sat. 10-4:00 and Sun. 12-6:00. Call (760) 985-1918 for further info. I may have to take this page down in about a month. :( There are some things taking place that may warrant that, so I will let you know as soon as I know more. I will most likely make a new page in a couple of months.

On March 30, 2016, Sharon gave a presentation at the Mojave River Valley Museum on the California Route 66 Needles to the Cajon Summit. She spoke about what is in the works for preserving that stretch of Highway. She also gave a presentation on September 13 at the Friends of Apple Valley Library meeting on the same topic plus the car culture. The article that appeared in the Daily Press goes into a bit more detail on her planned presentation.
