Old Glory General Store 14.06.2021

Today we close my Grandma Sherry's antique store, Old Glory. I have been privileged to have been a part of the store since the very beginning. Since I was 15 years old. Almost half of my life! I got to be there every step of the way as my Grandma turned just a normal, not so special, antique store into something amazing. I got to watch first hand as she lived out her dream. I'm going to miss walking through that door and seeing her smiling face standing at the counter. I've l...earned more than I ever thought possible from working there. I've been surrounded by a bunch of amazing women all full of wisdom to glean from. I've made many life long friendships with people that I would have never met if it wasn't for my Grandma's shop. But the most special thing I take away from Old Glory is the closeness and special bond I formed with my Grandma. My Grandma used to love to write blogs. She started a blog called "We Did Not Fall From Grace" back in 2009. I've spent the last couple of weeks, sometimes with tears flowing and sometimes laughing, as I read through all of her blogs again. She was such an eloquent writer and I always told her she needed to turn her blog into a book. Well anyways, here's a part of one of her blogs I came across the other day that I think sums up Old Glory well. "It's hard to hang on to treasures. We move, we downsize, we clean out. We can't keep it all. That's what antique stores are for. We're just full of all the treasures that somebody couldn't keep. I'm rather pragmatic so I don't get all sappy about stuff coming into the store that looks rich in memory. I feel rather honored. Honored that I can be the keeper of the treasure until someone walks in, is stricken by memory or hope and takes a much loved treasure home." My Grandma really was the keeper of all treasures until the right person came along and took that treasure home. And now every person who has a treasure form Old Glory has a little piece of my Grandma with them, too! It's hard to believe her store is pretty much completely empty now and all those treasures have just flown out the door the last 2 months. I'll miss her and Old Glory so much!
