The rubber compound and multi layers of cord make the Firestone Indy tires of the 1940’s/50’s practically invincible!....Until they’re not! Haha. But seriously, when kept away from sun and heat, these tires are still better than any new tire you could buy now. In fact there’s still racers running these at Bonneville at 200 miles an hour. It’s been a journey, but getting the details just right sometimes means rebuilding things a couple times. @camacho_studios persevered and massaged the grill shell until it was perfect. Finally for the first time since the 1940’s, the DePalma Miller has the original grill again. This car was built in 1931 to race Indy, it was Ralph DePalma‘s last race car of his career. It changed hands several times and continued racing into the 50s with slight modifications including a different grill. It is powered by a Miller 122 straight 8 engine, taken out of DePalma‘s 1922 Miller Indy Car. Finally some good news this year, our pal Steve Truchan finished restoration of both of the Gulf Miller original rear drive cars.
