Happy Friday Everyone! If you’re looking for something fun to do come by the museum and see our latest exhibit Insight 20/20:Ojai Studio Artists. Hours are Friday 10-4, Saturday 10-4, & Sunday 12-4. ... We love @haffnerstudio and her art. Continuance, 2020 When life feels overwhelming I find great comfort in nature & in discovering & creating patterns. In creating this piece, I wanted to reflect some of the complexities of these recent times, holding darkness & light, loss & discovery. I also hoped to achieve some of the soothing satisfaction I find in contemplating a patterned rug, for example, where one’s eye is drawn along pathways & can explore shapes, lines, & relationships. Happy Ojai Day 2020! Even though many of the festivities are cancelled this year due to the pandemic there are still a couple of things to check out. Go downtown to Libbey Park and check out this year’s mandala. The community came together to work on the art project & it looks spectacular. ... Usually the Old Ojai jail is open once a year on Ojai Day. Thanks to the Ojai Preservation Commission we are able to bring a bit of it to you through a video about the jail. We’ve got some exciting news to share! After a long, lonely seven months of being closed. We are excited to finally be able to welcome you back to the Ojai Valley Museum. We will be reopening this Saturday, October 24th. ... Our new hours will be Friday 10-4, Saturday 10-4, & Sunday 12-4. Of course, your safety is our priority. We have new precautions in place: Wear a mask, use our sanitizer, signs to remind you to social distance, plexiglass, & no more than 20 people in the museum at once. It’s all for your protection. Our collection holds many vintage items; among them are buttonhooks from the early1900s. Here are three: two sterling silver and the other has, what looks like, inlaid pearl or the like. These were donated by Majorie Campbell, a long time resident of Ojai. For those who are not familiar, a buttonhook is a tool used to facilitate the closing of high buttoned shoes, gloves or other clothing. #throwbackthursday #museumcollections #ojaivalleymuseum

Sahara Desert Guide 2020 Leslie Clark Ojai is paradise, sheltering, & protecting us. It also insulates us from a wider experience of the world. It has been my choice to step out to experience the world in its extremes. I am drawn to the Sahara where nomads have endured our planets harshest environment. ... I once met a blind desert guide.
