Ohlone College's Office of the VP of Student Services welcomes all Ohlone students to a safe space discussion today and/or this Wednesday in light of George Floyd's death - along with the many deaths of people of color before him - that have highlighted the racial inequality and systemic inequity that remain in the U.S. This is a space to share your thoughts and feelings about recent events and to listen with your fellow classmates and to work towards making Ohlone an equitable place for all.

For the 2019/20 academic year Ohlone College will be awarding 1062 Associate of Art and Associate of Science degrees, and 195 Certificates of Achievement. A total of 750 students will be graduating, some with multiple degrees, with many planning to transfer to local and out-of-state universities to further their higher education goals. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the ARISE program at the Tri-City Health Center is offering phone and video visits to the East Asian Community to help manage anxiety. If you feel stressed or anxious during these times, it's always a good idea to talk to someone. Services are offered in English, Chinese, and Korean. The Alameda County Health Department’s directive to shelter-in-place has been extended through May 3rd to reduce the spread of COVID-19. This means all on-campus services and operations will continue to be suspended until May 3rd as well. The College will continue remote instruction through the end of the spring semester. ... F1 International Students: Although our office is closed through May 3rd, please contact us with any questions you may have, which may include questions about your full-time course load, how to use your health insurance, how to submit transfer paperwork for the Fall semester, updating immigration documents and whether you can travel during this time. As of midnight on Tuesday, March 17, the Ohlone College Fremont campus and Newark Center CLOSED through April 7 as a result of the Alameda County Department of Health legal order for all residents to shelter in place to slow the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The campus is not closing at this time and remains fully operational, however all Ohlone College classes will be cancelled Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20 to prepare for possible temporary remote instruction beginning March 30th. Ohlone students: Don't forget that this weekend is daylight saving time! Clocks are going to be reset to one hour ahead on Sunday. Try to go to bed a little earlier this weekend because (as this article points out) it can really impact you later, especially on Monday morning when you're trying to stay awake in class :) Rest up and have a great weekend!
