Or reduce the risk. Peep the evidence (or lack thereof). All the way back to 1999... The basic science literature supports the epidemiological evidence that st...retching before exercise does not reduce the risk of injury. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10593217 Due to the paucity, heterogeneity and poor quality of the available studies no definitive conclusions can be drawn as to the value of stretching for reducing the risk of exercise-related injury. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12909434 There is not sufficient evidence to endorse or discontinue routine stretching before or after exercise to prevent injury among competitive or recreational athletes https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15076777 Does not meaningfully reduce lower extremity injury risk https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1250267/ There is no evidence in the literature for a preventive effect of stretching on the occurrence of athletic injuries. https://sgsm.ch//user_u/Zeitschrift/53-2005-1/3-2005-1.pdf Stretching before exercising does not seem to confer a practically useful reduction in the risk of injury https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12202327 Our data do not support the use of stretching for injury prevention purposes, neither before or after exercise https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/48/11/871 Static stretching had no clear effect on all-cause or overuse injuries. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26642915 The literature fails to demonstrate any clear relationship between low levels of spine flexibility with LBP. https://www.mdpi.com/2411-5142/2/3/29 __________________________________________________________ Find discussion on this research inside of the #ClinicalAthleteForum www.clinicalathlete.com/forum

GOT BACK PAIN AND HAD AN MRI? DONT PAINIC! If you’ve had an MRI for some back pain you may have been told that you have a disc bulge, or disc degeneration, or... facet joint degeneration, or an annular tear, or even spondylolithesis? Well check yo self before you wreck yo self against this chart and see how many people of your age have the same things but with NO PAIN or symptoms! Having the results of an MRI can be as scary as hell, but remember 90% of all back pain has a VERY FAVOURABLE natural history, and things seen on scan in those that have back pain are also seen in those that don’t have back pain. Follow the simple advice to keep moving as best as you can and seek a good rationale evidenced based physio for some further guidance if needed!
