Follow along with us to learn all about the special equipment we have in our clinic! Today’s equipment highlight: the bolster swing! This swing is a little different from what you can find at the park. Using this swing in a controlled and safe setting allows occupational therapists to engage and challenge a child in many positions and activities (sitting, laying, hanging). Activities with this swing can help to improve strength, coordination, gross motor skills, and sensory processing. It helps to stimulate the vestibular system, and engages core strength and balance. This piece of equipment has a lot of jobs, but the most important one is...it’s fun! #ocspeechequipmenthighlight

Just when we think we have it all figured out, something changes! When we find solutions to a challenging phase our children are struggling with, when we find ways to adapt to new obstacles thrown our way, when we think we have enough experiences in our toolbox to tackle new problems...something new and different comes our way. Change is sometimes inconvenient and scary, but it is inevitable. So if you find yourself worried on this Monday morning about the changes ahead, about the unknown, try to find comfort in the fact that change is constant. Change allows us to adapt, to grow, and to become better. Change creates a pause, and gives us the opportunity to step back, re-evaluate, and work together to find the best way to move forward. The seasons will always change, but it’s up to us to decide how to react and carry on. #mantramonday

Feeling antsy? Let’s get moving! If you don’t have equipment to set up an obstacle course, head outside and draw one with chalk. We all need an outlet for calmi...ng our minds and our bodies. Let’s get rid of our stress together, while strengthening balance, gross-motor skills, range of motion, coordination, motor planning, endurance, and mastering developmental milestones. Get to work, but make it fun! #workoutwednesday

Speech, Occupational, Physical, and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) treatment for those in our community is a medically necessary service. This has not changed as a result of COVID-19, and health plans continue to authorize treatment for in-person services or teletherapy. These essential services are exempt from stay-at-home orders issued by various government agencies during these challenging times. Based on CDC and OSHA guidelines for essential businesses, Orange County Spe...ech Services has enhanced our policies and procedures regarding the delivery of all therapy services, including, limiting staff in the clinic at the same time, offering telehealth services, requiring employees to wear masks and shields when treating, and requiring employees and clients to cancel in person sessions if they exhibit any symptoms of COVID-19. In person or through Teletherapy, let’s stay on track together.

As always, we are working hard to keep everyone safe! In our clinic, we follow strict COVID-19 health and safety measures. We have sneeze guards, contactless temperature checks, masks, face shields, cleaning and sanitizing guidelines, social distancing, and a team of therapists eager to see you. October is national physical therapy month and we wanted to take a moment to give a big shout out to our pediatric physical therapists! Another very important p...art of our team, our physical therapists give us so much strength...literally and figuratively. They are movement experts providing our clients with the tools to improve mobility, flexibility, posture, balance, gross motor skills, range of motion, and overall independence in moving bodies to the best of their abilities. Our occupational therapists are such an important part of our team! They do so many wonderful things for our clients, but what’s special about their job is that... they look at each child in a holistic way. They are great at seeing the bigger picture and evaluating where delays or limitations are coming from. They help our clients become stronger, more independent, and more successful. Our therapists work to strengthen fine motor skills, cognitive skills, social development, visual motor, sensory integration, and basic self care. Basically, they do it all! It’s another Monday in the middle of a pandemic. Two pretty undesirable things. BUT, in the midst of all this uncertainty, many things have become clear. Our fa...mily and friends are important. Our health is important. We are adaptable and creative. We can think outside the box. Our children will be okay. We can still move towards our goals. We can make change and advocate for the things that we need. We can do this, in fact we ARE doing this. Despite the many changes, restrictions, and obstacles in our way, we continue to make progress together. Carefully, we move forward on our paths and one thing becomes clear: we can overcome.
