Today is National Make A Dog’s Day. It provides an opportunity to give all dogs the best day of their lives. The day not only encourages visits to shelters, but it is also serves as a reminder to animal lovers everywhere to adopt instead of shop for a new pet.

Rescue in progress! This sweet kitty was going to be euthanized at 5pm. She isn't eating. She is very skinny and sweet baby is sick. Our amazing foster is on the way to scoop her up. www.paypal.me/ocshelterpartners

We have been sooo busy. So many medical issues that people can't afford, but so much love for their babies we can't say no. Keeping pets in their good homes is our number one mission. As a side gig, we are also rescuing medical cases from the shelters. Yesterday we couldn't say no to these babies. They are severely underweight and have obviously been sick for some time. We are going to try meds but we are likely looking at at least one enucleation, maybe 2. This will be thousands of dollars and frankly, with all that we have been doing we are falling behind. We know these are tough times, and even a share helps! We need to raise some money to keep on keeping on for these babies. www.paypal.me/ocshelterpartners Venmo @ocshelter-partners

Four years ago. Due to Covid-19, we don’t get to do a lot of face to face with pet families like we used to. Now, it’s mostly over the phone and we have been doing a lot of that. This story has stayed with us and we think of this family often and we can’t wait until we can help pets and families in person again - Sometimes in our office at the shelter, we see people at their saddest times. Sometimes their beloved pets have had an emergency. Today I was honored to be a part ...of a brave young man saying goodbye to his beloved Rottweiler. She had lived a good, long, happy life. This young man was 8 and he had never known life without her. His dad carried her into my office and laid her on a bed Donald put out. Her little boy curled up behind her crying. Dad sat in his chair crying. Although we offer many people the option of going to our vet, sometimes the health crisis is such that to move the pet anywhere else is not a humane option. Such was the case today for Princess. She had possibly had a stroke, and was spending her last moments with her family. As the little boy got up and sat in the chair next to me, he was sobbing. His Dad was lost in grief also. I wrapped my arms around the little boy and I asked him if he wanted to know what I thought doggie heaven looked like. His Dad looked up and gave me a grateful smile. As I described rolling hills, puddles, friends and trees with hamburger lollipops...he stopped crying. I told him that I believed Princess would frolic and play with all of her friends and eat as many burger pops as she wanted and that some day...she would be waiting for him. As little kids do, he told me all the other cool things that would be there. He told me what he would do when he saw her again in 200 years. I told him to tell Princess and I left them alone. When I came back a few minutes later he was laying with her again. I heard him tell her not to choke on the lollipop sticks and not to eat too many tonight...until she was used to it. Isn't it funny how your heart can break and grow at the exact same moment? When son and Dad left, they were holding onto each other. I will never forget them. Or Princess. See more

We realize that with everyone in quarantine, and the shelter closed...that it may seem like we are not too busy. Au contraire. We have been so busy, and we know you love a day in the life posts. In the last two days...hmmm, where do we begin- 1. A senior lady in a rural area was walking and buying a 10 lb bag of food every day for all her rescue dogs because she doesn't have a car and can't carry a heavy bag. We sent her 100 lbs of dog food and set her up for regular del...ivery. 2. In conjunction with the Ark of SJ we got a dog out of a situation and amazingly enough into a foster. She has been adopted today and will go to her forever home Saturday. 3.We talked a good Samaritan off the ledge and gave her tips to care for the teeny tiny kitten she found BAKING on the concrete. Sweet baby had burn blisters. 4. We saved 3 euth listed kittens literally 5 min before deadline. Arranged for a vet at 6pm in a Saturday ON Labor Day weekend! Our amazing volunteers made this happen! 5. Took a call from a family with a very sick dog and sent them off to our vet at 9pm. Dog had heatstroke and is ok 1000.00 later. They are lucky. 6. Called a vet and VERY FIRMLY scolded them that a dog they had kept waiting for 2 hours in the 100 parking lot was literally dying outside. Took 3 calls, and we had to get mean, but he is safe now. 7. Took a call about a 1 year old kitty who has been having high fevers and not eating. 3 vets and 2000.00 later they need help. We are working on it. Stand by. 8. We took a call from a family who lives on Pendleton who have 2 pitties. Pendleton has a breed ban and someone reported them. We are trying to find temp housing while they close on their home. 9. We got a little shep mix into rescue who had been banished to the backyard. 10. We want to save this baby love pittie girl at Seeaca. Her time is limited. 11. Although we left out A LOT of little stuff, we saved the best for last!! Remember our little parvo Mal pup? It was another late night save...1030pm on a Saturday. Look at him with his BRO! So busy. Hard stuff, but so many good people. This is a typical 24 hour day. #moregoodthanbad #shelterinterventionworks See more
