At today’s Special Council Meeting, the City Council authorized the City to join an amicus brief supporting Orange County Sheriff's Department Don Barnes' appe...al of a court order requiring the local jail population be cut in half, a move that would release potentially dangerous and violent criminals. The Rancho Santa Margarita City Council strongly supports the Sheriff's appeal that would maximize public safety. See more

Someone pulled a Grinch on the Grinch himself, and we need the community’s help! On Friday, December 11, at approximately 7:45 p.m., someone stole the 18-foot Grinch inflatable outside Cal-Elite kids in the 22000 block of Avenida Empresa. A dark-colored van was seen leaving the scene. While we hope this thief’s heart grows three sizes one day and they return the Grinch to his home, we are encouraging anyone with information to call the Sheriff’s Department’s non-emergency line at 949-770-6011. Check out the comments below for photos of the missing Grinch. **UPDATE** A suspect driving a van matching the description above also stole a giant Santa inflatable the same evening in the Las Flores neighborhood.

#Repost @ocsheriff Thanks to @tiporangecounty, @ocsdranchosm Deputy Siegel was able to present $2,000 to a family who lost their home in the #BondFire. Stephanie Smith, her husband, Jeffrey Bovay, and their twin 14-year-old daughters lived in a residence on the grounds of the beloved outdoor educational program, Inside the Outdoors. The couple ran operations for the hands-on program that serves more than 120,000 participants every year. ... The fire claimed the family's home, several family pets, the Inside the Outdoors facilities and three trailers that housed animals for the program. The community is now fundraising to help the @ocdeptofed Inside the Outdoors program rebuild through Go Fund Me. We are grateful TIP's generosity allowed us to help this family who does so much for our community!
