There are many important elements in vitamins, but these are a few of the most pertinent aspects of it, and hopefully this provides a little motivation if you’re hesitant to start taking them! The most commonly known vitamin in a prenatal is folic acid. It is a B vitamin and plays an integral role in cell division. It’s important in all aspects of our body, but particularly important in pregnancy as the embryo undergoes rapid growth and development. Iron is another impo...rtant component of prenatal vitamins. Many women may be anemic, or borderline anemic, and not realize it, particularly women who have heavy periods. Pregnancy is a time in which many women become anemic, because your body is working hard to support the growing babyand if you are lacking or deficient in ironit makes it harder to produce the red blood cells needed. DHA (a type of omega 3 fatty acid) is another important element that should be taken during pregnancy. It’s a type of fatty acid that plays an important role in the nervous system and helps promote fetal brain and eye development. In recent years, it’s been shown that babies born to mothers who took DHA (and even infants who received formula with DHA) had higher visual acuity and improved learning ability. Some prenatal vitamins don’t have DHA within it, so make sure to look for one with it. This year has not only been hard under normal circumstances but throw in infertility, covid-19, 1 cancelled transfer 5 days before due to covid, and 2 failed embryo transfers with genetically tested and normal embryos. To say this year has been filled with heartbreak is a... huge understatement. But on October 26th, we transferred my 3rd and LAST embryo in our last attempt to get pregnant. To have hope after so much failure felt impossible at times but also there was always a glimmer of it. You fight. You hold on. And with tears streaming down my face, I can tell you that 3rd time was the charm That phrase will forever be changed for me. I AM PREGNANT. Our hopes and dreams have been answered. And when they say it only takes one, it’s the truth. It felt right in my heart to leave this year not angry with what it threw at us, but how it left us stronger, and continued to teach us all just how much love and courage we have in our hearts. Our tiny miracle is proof that there was a rainbow in 2020. It just took us a while to get there. I can’t believe I get to say the words, I’m pregnant! Just... wow. Feeling so much gratitude to use those words To all my fertility warriors struggling through, going to appointments and procedures alone and staring into the depths of your own struggle: I see you. Don’t give up hope. You are not alone. Repost from our own @drnidheesachdev At a time when our country should be celebrating diversity, I am excited to see this article published by @asrm highlighting ethnic trends in patients pursuing elective egg freezing, notably finding an increase in the percentage of cycles in the asian/PI population. Increased awareness and education regarding reproductive health is likely a pivotal part in the increase in total number of oocyte cryopreservation (egg freezing) cycles per...formed. More importantly - normalizing it across all ethnicities and cultures will hopefully help to even out the disparities amongst ethnic groups who pursue an egg freezing cycle. As a South Asian woman and reproductive endocrinologist, I am proud to see how in the last several years I have a greater percentage of south asian patients, friends and family who have undergone egg freezing cycles or reached out for education regarding it. Education is key and knowledge is power, so props to everyone out there for educating the community about their reproductive options, and particularly my fellow south asian doctors helping to break down any barriers/stigmas about egg freezing in the south asian community.
