It might be cool to see what we sometimes see under the microscope during treatment... This tooth had a "C-shaped canal". The four dark holes in the picture are separate points at which rotary files were used to instrument the various parts of the canal system. (There is also a fifth part of the canal in the lower right that contains irrigant, which shows up as white in the picture). The result was a nice, even fill!

Some of the most challenging teeth to do root canals on can be mandibular premolars with multiple canals! This tooth with pulpal necrosis and symptomatic apical periodontitis had two canals visible on a CBCT scan and on pre-op PA's. Both canals were thoroughly cleaned with a very flexible /.06 taper NiTi rotary file. The bifurcation of the canals was visible under high magnification (with a microscope) through a very conservative access.
